I was reading Craigs List today and saw a posting for a position as a Virtual Assistant:

“This job will pay $4-$5 per hour, flexible hours, part-time on an as needed basis. I need someone to start immediately for research projects. As I see how this is handled, more responsibilities and work will be given. I request a 7-day trial period to assess our compatibility, payment upon delivery of completed work. Upon completion of task, I will make a final selection. “

Are there people willing to work for such little pay? Not only do they offer well below the minimum wage, but they also want you to work 7 days for free before they may or may not give you the position.

How much can a company expect for little pay? Certaintly not anything well qualified or is the job market really doing so terrible?
