How to Reach Your Goals, My Goals

Saturday, November 24th, 2007

Success is a reoccurring topic on this blog just because its so important. By knowing what it is you want to achieve, you help keep yourself focused and block out any other distractions. Reaching your goals can be very motivating and a great way to increase your self confidence as you reach and surpass your daily goals.

Steps to Reaching your Goals
1. Set a daily to do list that lists what you will do today that will bring you closer to your goal.
2. Stay on course by reviewing your reviewing your daily efforts. Are you getting closer to your goals or farther away?
3. Keep your goals achievable. It is very disappointing to be unable achieve your goals.
4. Talk to other people who have reached your goal. How did they do it?
5. When setting your goal follow the SMART method. Your goal should be Smart, Measurable, Attainable, Reasonable, and Time-Bound.

My Goal to Afford an Apartment with My Blog
In my last monthly income report, I wrote about one of my goals. That was to make enough money to be able to pay for an apartment in Germany using this blog. Last month the income of this blog was $162.25 (not at all enough for a place). I set a goal of reaching $400 by the end of this month which would pay for an apartment. By setting this goal it gave me a reason to work harder on this blog. As of November 24, I’ve surpassed this goal and reached $900 with my blog. Not only did I meet the goal, but far surpassed it.

How I Reached My Goal
First I kept my goal reachable, I knew it was possible to reach $400 with this blog. I knew it would take extra effort but I could do it. Everyday I worked harder to bring more people to my blog. I doubled my advertising to gain traffic to this blog. Lets face it, traffic=money when it comes to websites.

Keeping traffic=money in mind, I sought to increase my traffic everyday. I set aside time each day to research how others gained traffic and I spent time advertising. There were times I thought reaching this goal wouldn’t be possible, but in case I struggled through it. You can’t reach your goals by giving up!

Shopping at 5 am or shopping online?

Friday, November 23rd, 2007

How many out there actually woke up at 5:30 am to go shopping and try to catch Black Friday Sales or how many actually stood outside all night long to get a deal? I can account for one of those people who woke up before the sun came out to go shopping. What did I get for my efforts? Just a sweater from Old Navy. All the best tech deals were sold out before I could get through the doors.

Did I Need to get up so early?
Maybe it’s just a tradition to get up that early. But, instead of waking up at 5 am. I could have just ordered my products online. That $80, 500Gb Hard Drive I wanted? You can order it with free shipping on Staple’s Website. Even Bestbuy offers most of its early bird specials online. Instead of creating traffic and getting a headache, why not shop online this year?

Do We Buy Things Just because it is on sale?
Before I go rush out and buy those early bird “sales” take a second thought. They might seem like excellent deals, but how much of that stuff do you actually need? I would challenge you to make a list and let you determine how many of the things you buy now will actually still be using in five months?

As I look around the house I live in, I see plenty of “wasted” gifts that go unused for long periods of time. This year, instead of running right out and buying the latest deals, I’ve decided to be more conservative, think hard about what I actually need. Maybe that money used for that big screen you don’t need could be better served helping someone in need?

Thanksgiving Shopping, Black Friday 2007

Thursday, November 22nd, 2007

Happy Thanksgiving! I hope even those who aren’t in the U.S. can have a nice dinner whether it be of fish, turkey (my favorite), or even just rice and beans. For my Thanksgiving, I always have Turkey, Coleslaw, and of course biscuits. The second thing I like to do is look through the large number of ads for Black Friday.

My top picks for Black Friday 2007
1. Office Depot: They have 4 Port USB Hub for $4.99 after rebate. 2/9.99 Logitech Quickcam. Last but not lease 5 MP Digital Camcorder for $80.
2. The Sony Cybershot Camera for $99. There are plenty of stores selling this with a combination of a printer for free.
3. The Maxtor 500 GB OneTouch Hard Drive for $80 after rebate at staples. I’ve never had problem getting rebates, has anyone else?

To top off the end of my electrics spree, I always go to Gap to take advantage of the usual 30% off they have until noon. Tomorrow will be crazy, but if you go early, you might be able to avoid most of the rush.

Rent out your House and Make Money

Wednesday, November 21st, 2007

Buying a house, it is probably the most expensive thing you’ll ever spend your money on. Your house mortgage payments are probably also one of the biggest strains on your current income. Renting out your house can be one of the most effective ways to curb that strain and have someone else make a portion of that house payment for you. There are many ways to make extra money by renting out your house. This includes: Holiday renting, renting out your property while you go on vacation or by adding a second residence onto your current home.

The Paperwork
It is not always easy to deal with Tenants when renting out your house. You need to make sure all the paperwork is carefully written. A good idea would be to hire a lawyer to write the lease and claim the lawyer as an expense against your taxed income. You need to make sure everything in the rental agreement is stated such as who pays for repairs. Before these tenants move in, also make sure to take careful pictures of everything in the residence.

Advantages
1. You might feel safer with someone else living by you.
2. You make money. Even after the Tenants leave, the house is still yours, they just helped you with your payments.
3. You can use extra money earned from the Tenants to pay for additional repairs to your house.

Disadvantages
1. Loss of Privacy
2. The risk of bad tenants. You might have tenants who don’t pay, are loud, or they damage your property.

I’ve always thought it would be great to buy a house and rent out the other rooms. Sure you lose privacy, but your monthly payments would be almost nonexistent. After your tenants leave, they don’t have anything. You have the house, which you can later sell and reap the rewards.
