Have you found it easy to just waste your entire day on YouTube? It is as if they invented YouTube as a way to further decrease productivity. I’ve been known to get stuck in the YouTube Effect. What exactly is the YouTube effect and how can we use it to help us in our daily lives?

The YouTube Effect
Once we start watching one video we get drawn to another and another, before we know it, the entire day is gone. What started as a successful morning, turns into a wasted day of YouTube watching. How do they do it? First they sucker you in to watching one video, but what happens after watching one video? We get drawn into another one. They show us related videos and other funny videos we might wanna watch. So they we get suckered into watching another video and the process starts again, another set of new recommended videos.

The YouTube Effect Reapplied
We can apply the YouTube effect to job applications, blogging, and even dating. Heres how it works: First we need to entice the other person, the viewer, our potential date. We need to offer them a sneak peak of something they would want to learn more about.

YouTube Effect: Blogging
The first step is just to get someone to visit. We can post on other blogs, answer yahoo questions, or ask someone directly to visit. Once they are in, I try to keep them in by adding at the end of my blog posts, Recommend Posts. Since its usually related many users then click to the next topic, then on the bottom of that post I’ve got other topics. I’ve basically got them stuck in the YouTube Effect. All we have to do is get users to visit our blog, then we use links throughout our post that relate to the topic, to get visitors to visit more and more of our blog posts. Eventually they are likely to subscribe to our blog.

YouTube Effect: Dating
When we are dating someone, first we have to just get them to go on that first date. Once we get them in and take them on date, we need to also give them to go on a second or third. How do we do this? We apply the YouTube effect here. At the end of the date we don’t just let them leave and try to get them again later. Rather we recommend a nice idea for a second date. After we do this three of four times, we’ve “trapped” them and now they become our girlfriend or boyfriend.

YouTube Effect: Job Application
The same thing goes for job applications. First we need to get potential employers to read our application. In our application we need to find ways to get them more involved with us. We could attach additional files to our application. Within the application write, if you view this chart you will see this effect. Then at the bottom of that chart refer them somewhere else. Essential they will have spent more time on our application, thus remembering who we are and giving us better chances to become their employee.
