When did blogging switch from personal to movie reviews, video games, and every other niche topic? Do people now blog to make money or they truely just want to write? Blogging is now not only a place to explore our innermost feelings, but also our own personal business. In many ways, blogs are the magazines of the internet. Usually a new article comes out everyday and you can also subscribe to them via feedburner.
Advertising like a Magazine
So, if blogs are like a magazine, how do they make a profit if we aren’t paying to read them? Advertising of course. Have you ever heard those radio announcers who during there show blatantly support a product. The script reads something like “I use McDonalds because I satisfy my hunger.” We also notice that magazines have many full page advertisements that even though we usually skip over them, they fill up half the magazine. Did you know that blogs also sponsor products and can get paid up to $500 just for writing a 200 word article about a product?
How Blogs Cash In
Reading something that I wrote or even a blogger wrote can be much more convincing than something that an athlete said on a commercial or a full colored ad. When we read it from the blogger we get a more personal account of the ad. Do I take sponsored ads? If I like the cause, yes I will do it. Usually I write neuteral ads that neither support nor talk bad about a product. Though many would call this “selling out” I do it because 1.It pays the bills 2.It is an effective way to build buzz about a product.
How You Can Cash In
Earlier I wrote a few articles that describe exactly how you, if you own a website, can cash in on the many sponsors that are out there that want to pay you for sponsoring their product on their site.
