Less is More: Minimalistic Thinking

Do you spend more than you earn? Are you living in a house that is full of things you just don’t use? On this blog I strive for earning more, yet spending less. Putting a gap between your spending and your earnings will put you in a great financial situation and also dramatically improve your life. We need money to survive, but how much do we really need?

Less is More:Do You Work For Your Stuff?
What can an empty room say that a full one can’t? Are our gadgets controlling us or do we control our gadgets? If you are in debt and working to pay for that big tv, then your tv is in control of you. When we let our debt accumulate because we have accumulated so much stuff, then are we really working for ourselves or for our gadgets? Spend only what you make, if you don’t earn enough for a rockstar lifestyle, don’t spend like you do. Many tend to be happy now, sad later, but should we be happy now and plan to be happy later?

Less Is More: Buying Less
Look at your collection of clothes, do you have a large collection of cheap clothes? Instead of buying lots of cheap clothes, buy designer clothes, just less of them. You will feel better about yourself if you are wearing dolce gabbana jeans rather than $10 levis. Plus your designer jeans will last longer, stay in fashion longer, and ultimately make you feel better about yourself. Think of those designer clothes as a long term investment.

Look around your house. What if slowly upgrading to the big screen tv, buying multiple tvs along the way, what if you had bought the big one right from the start? This goes with everything in our life. Do we need quantity or should we rather be thinking quality?

Less is More: Cut out all the fat
If your house was on fire, what 10 things would you try to save and what would you leave behind? Make a list and seperate the things you would miss from the things you wouldn’t miss. Take those things on the do not miss list and just sell them or get rid of them, you don’t need them! Many of us buy so many things just it just clutters our house. Apply this list to shopping. Before you buy something, think, would I save this in a fire? Is this making my life better or more cluttered?
