What Should I Buy for Christmas?

Saturday, December 22nd, 2007

Every Christmas season I take a look around and see items that will get bought and given just because it is Christmas time. Many of these gifts will end up in a closet, a drawer or some other storage location. Our houses become simply storage locations for the number of trinkets and other items we buy over the years. Did we really need that gum ball machine or that grill cheese sandwich cooker?

Buying the Right Gifts
I ask myself a few questions before buying gifts each year.
1. Where will this item be in 6 months, will it still be used?
2. Do I, or this person really need this gift?
3. How long with the novelty of the item really stay novel. (Will we still love that collection of Simpson Pez Dispensers 5 months from now?)

Be Environmental
By buying unneeded gifts and presents, we encourage producers to produce more of these items that just fill up our closets and our drawers. I’ve been in so many houses that seem just to be full of junk from the eighties. It can really be hard to let go of those atari game systems or Ebay is a great way to unload all that stuff you have accumulated over the years. Often I’ll have an ebay garage sale and just unload everything I’ll never use. I use the time test, everything I haven’t picked up or used in 6 months gets sold.

Is your house full of unneeded stuff?

iBackup, Backup your Files

Saturday, December 22nd, 2007

Do you have all your files backed up or does the threat of a hard drive or web hacker not seem like a scary situation? I’ll never forget the time I took my hard drive full of 300gb of movies for a trip. Lets just say at the end of the trip it crashed and I lost all my files. What if you could have your files backed up in a place you could always have access to?

Online File Storage
IBackup allows us to backup all our files online with an easy easy drag-n-drop and familiar explorer interface for easy online storage. I’ve seen countless blogs and web pages go down after hackers had their way, but having data backed up in two online locations eliminates the chances that you lose your precious files forever. I’ve started backing up all my data and files on a weekly basis because, if this site crashed, I’d lose everything. Use a service like IBackup for peace of mind. Plan for the worst, hope for the best.

Audio Ads, The Future of Making Money Online?

Friday, December 21st, 2007

I’ve used different forms of advertising online to make money, but what would you think I started playing audio ads on this site as well? Ads are already getting intrusive enough, we watch them during our favorite television shows both online and through traditional broadcasts. We seem them while driving and even when going to the bathroom. How many ads do we see in just one day? The next sense to be taken over online is the audio ad.

Voice2PageNow
Voice2PageNow.com is trying to take a different step in advertising by allowing you to play 5 second audio ads. The ads will allow you to earn a small amount of every visitor that hears them. The five second ad will load every time the webpage is displayed. Visit voice2page.com to get signed up.

When have you crossed the line?
Consider that most of the content you read on the internet is paid for by advertising. The question is, when do websites draw the line. Are audio ads too intrusive or is it just something we have to live with in order to get free content? Currently I rely on Google (sign up here) and Kontera for most of my advertising, I plan to stay away from audio ads as I personally find them just a bit too much.

Make Money Online with Surveys

Friday, December 21st, 2007

Of all possibilities to make money online with surveys, I’ve found Survey Spot to be the best. I wrote about this survey “spot” earlier, but still I get questions asking me how I do it. Everyday I get a couple emails from them requesting for a survey. There are a few things to look out for.
1. You will get daily emails from SurveySpot. Only those that specifically say that they pay out $3 or $5 will pay out.
2. You have to qualify before you get paid. This can get annoying as sometimes you won’t qualify for many surveys at a time.
3. After doing your survey you may have to wait up to 4 weeks to get paid. I have even had to wait 6 weeks. Think of it this way, if you constantly do surveys for 4 weeks and beyond, you will continue to get paid on a constant basis after that.

Currently I make an extra 60 bucks a month depending on how many surveys I do. Remember to act fast as each surveys has a limited number of participants allowed before no more people are allowed to participate. Has anyone else made money with surveys?
