I’ve been running a Free Domain Giveaway over at SampleaDay.com, with my co-writer Scott for the past month and it seems the contest hasn’t gone as well as expected. We we started the contest, the goal was, increase readers to Sampleaday.com, gain links on other websites, and reward our users.

Free Domain Giveaway: Current Status
Through the past month, we have had 3 sign ups. That means that each person who posted has a 33.33% chance of winning. Very good odds for a contest.

Free Domain Giveaway: Analysis
To promote this contest we wrote a little reference on each post written afterwards. We didn’t do much outside promotion besides a reference or two on this website. All that needs to be done to enter is link to sampleaday.com or write a post with a link to sampleaday.com. Why has the turnout been so low? This might not have been the right prize to offer those looking for free samples. We should have been asking ourselves, how many of our subscribers have their own websites? Maybe a more appropriate prize would have been free cereal or even free beauty products?
