Before I ever started blogging, I read about various websites pulling 6 figure incomes and only writing one or two posts a day. One thing to keep in mind is that the writers of these blogs thought long term. Most of them didn’t make 6 figures in their first year. The key was thinking long term and holding out long term was the benefits that would come from hard work now.

Thinking Long Term: Growing Over Time
Very few make it big in a day, a month, or even a year. Take BoingBoing.net, currently a very successful website that now makes over one million per year in ad sales. The site launched in January 2000, yet BoingBoing.net didn’t see any huge amounts of traffic until the middle of 2004, 4 years after the start. Now that is long term thinking. What if BoingBoing.net gave up in those first four years? You can see how a website can grow overtime by looking at the chart of BoingBoing.net over the last 6 years.

Thinking Long Term: Making and Saving Money
We plan to retire someday right? Start thinking long term and planning ahead. Do you want to work forever? One of the reasons we go into work full time isn’t only so we have extra cash to take that extra vacation, but so when we get older we won’t have to punch in anymore. Envision yourself 20 years from now. How do you see yourself? Now think, how are you going to reach this great version of you?

To think long term you have to STOP thinking SHORT TERM.
Short Term: I want to write my first blog.
Long Term: This year, I want to write my first of ten successful blogs that will be created over the next 10 years.

Emphasize yourself growing over the upcoming years not just staying stable. Sure life is great now, but if you continue at the exact same path, will you reach the point you wanted to be 20 years from now?
