Domain Tasting, Adsense: Make Money

Sunday, January 27th, 2008

Domain tasting is using the 5 day “free period” for buying and testing a domain. You are allowed 5 days to try out the domain and if you aren’t satisfied, you can cancel within 5 days without penalty. You can use domain testing to make money by placing ads during that five period. Sure it won’t work for buying one website, but some buy thousands of sites using this 5 day grace period, and just cancel the worst performers. It has been supposed that millions of dollars are being made using this practice every month.

Google bans Domain Tasting with Adsense
Google hasn’t been a huge fan of this practice, therefore, they are not allowing adsense to be placed on any domains that are less than 5 days old. Not only will this probably not put a stop to Domain tasting, but it will cut deeply into Google’s profits. This should have an effect on the entire company. Domain Testers can just just as easily switch to other money makers like Adbrite…

Save Money on Books, Book Swim: Save Money

Sunday, January 27th, 2008

I’ve often recommended visiting the library as a great way to save money on books, but what if you can’t save money on books because you don’t live by the library? The newest thing since Netflix is Book Swim.

Book Swim: Save Money on Books
Don’t buy your books, rent them! Book Swim ships the books to you, you read the books, ship the back and new books get sent out. There is no shipping fee, just a monthly fee starting at $14.99. If you read a lot, this is definitely a great option, yet if you are like me and read one book per month, or read slow, this is probably not the best way to go. You won’t be getting new books until you send back the ones you’ve read in any case.

Half.com: Save Money on Books
Every school year, I always spent a lot of time looking on half.com for books. Why? The local college bookstore was always very expensive! But, half.com is not only great for college books, I’ve picked up used books in near perfect condition for as low as 70% off the cover price. Out of all the books I’ve ordered, I’ve never had a quality problem.

The Library: Save Money on Books
I’ll mention it again, the library can’t be beat when it comes to the ability to save money on books. The card is free, renting books is free, and you get three weeks to read them! The question is, how many books have you read a second time after purchasing them?

Free Domain Giveaway- Save Money

Saturday, January 26th, 2008

I’ve been running a Free Domain Giveaway over at SampleaDay.com, with my co-writer Scott for the past month and it seems the contest hasn’t gone as well as expected. We we started the contest, the goal was, increase readers to Sampleaday.com, gain links on other websites, and reward our users.

Free Domain Giveaway: Current Status
Through the past month, we have had 3 sign ups. That means that each person who posted has a 33.33% chance of winning. Very good odds for a contest.

Free Domain Giveaway: Analysis
To promote this contest we wrote a little reference on each post written afterwards. We didn’t do much outside promotion besides a reference or two on this website. All that needs to be done to enter is link to sampleaday.com or write a post with a link to sampleaday.com. Why has the turnout been so low? This might not have been the right prize to offer those looking for free samples. We should have been asking ourselves, how many of our subscribers have their own websites? Maybe a more appropriate prize would have been free cereal or even free beauty products?

Free Domain Giveaway: Still time….
There is still time to enter. All you have to do is link to sampleaday.com. If you win you’ll been given a domain of your choice. For full rules and to enter, visit this post.

How to Think Long Term: Make Money

Friday, January 25th, 2008

Before I ever started blogging, I read about various websites pulling 6 figure incomes and only writing one or two posts a day. One thing to keep in mind is that the writers of these blogs thought long term. Most of them didn’t make 6 figures in their first year. The key was thinking long term and holding out long term was the benefits that would come from hard work now.

Thinking Long Term: Growing Over Time
Very few make it big in a day, a month, or even a year. Take BoingBoing.net, currently a very successful website that now makes over one million per year in ad sales. The site launched in January 2000, yet BoingBoing.net didn’t see any huge amounts of traffic until the middle of 2004, 4 years after the start. Now that is long term thinking. What if BoingBoing.net gave up in those first four years? You can see how a website can grow overtime by looking at the chart of BoingBoing.net over the last 6 years.

Thinking Long Term: Making and Saving Money
We plan to retire someday right? Start thinking long term and planning ahead. Do you want to work forever? One of the reasons we go into work full time isn’t only so we have extra cash to take that extra vacation, but so when we get older we won’t have to punch in anymore. Envision yourself 20 years from now. How do you see yourself? Now think, how are you going to reach this great version of you?

To think long term you have to STOP thinking SHORT TERM.
Short Term: I want to write my first blog.
Long Term: This year, I want to write my first of ten successful blogs that will be created over the next 10 years.

Emphasize yourself growing over the upcoming years not just staying stable. Sure life is great now, but if you continue at the exact same path, will you reach the point you wanted to be 20 years from now?
