Save Money on Drinks: Save Money

Friday, January 25th, 2008

I’ve read that the average family spends 1/4-1/3 of their monthly grocery bill on things to drink. Quite a lot of money on drinks? Here’s a few more tips to save money on drinks coming straight from Germany. Here in Germany, they’ve come up with unique ways to save money on drinks that actually taste just as good, yet cost half as much.

Save Money on Drinks: Apple Schoele
Make your apple juice better for your teeth and less costly. Take apple juice and dilute half of it with sparkling water. The “sparkles” give the apple juice a sort of kick. It tastes just as good as straight apple juice, but cost much less.

Save Money on Drinks: Cola Beer
In Germany, they’ve found ways to mix beer with everything. They take beer and mix half of it with Cola. This works better with wheat beers, but Budweiser also works. This makes beer not only cheaper, but for those we aren’t big fans of beer, also somehow better.

Save Money on Drinks: Drink Water
Not only is it a good idea to dilute drinks, but drinking water altogether is just plain cheaper. The Institute of Medicine advises that men consume roughly 3.0 liters (about 13 cups) of total beverages a day and women consume 2.2 liters (about 9 cups) of total beverages a day.

Smart Car USA’s Smart Fortwo: Save Money

Thursday, January 24th, 2008

Since spending so much time in Europe, I’ve seen the Smart Fortwo everywhere. Every European and their Grandma has one of these “Smart” Cars, but for plenty of reasons why. European roads are small and gas is EXPENSIVE. A Smart Fortwo is the “smart” way to save money.

Save “Smart” Money on Gas
The Smart Fortwo gets 42 city/45 Highway, twice as good as my last Toyota. However, this comes with a price. The Smart Fortwo only goes 60 mpg. That means cars passing you, but I’m sure they won’t stop to look and see who is driving the smallest car imaginable.

Cost of a Smart Fortwo
The Smart Fortwo retails at $11,590. Not too bad for a two seater car with almost zero trunkspace. Sure it won’t impress the ladies, but it’ll be good to you wallet wise.

What’s inside a Smart Fortwo?
1.0 L, 71 HP, 3 cylinder engine and a 5 speed automated manual transmission. For storage it lists Lockable glove compartment. That is about all you are gonna get with the Smart Fortwo. It has trouble enough fitting in two people let alone a suitcase.

Getting a better Alexa Ranking – Goal Setting

Thursday, January 24th, 2008

Finally, I’ve reached an Alexa ranking of under 100,000. Getting this better Alexa ranking took patience and goal setting. After 8 months, my ranking is finally 99,337. This means better ad sponsors and more revenue for this site. Since I’ve reached this goal, it’s only time to set forth and try to reach 10,000. (Lower numbers are better). Yahoo for instance is number 1.

How to get a better Alexa Ranking?
Get the Alexa Toolbar. By viewing your own websites with the Alexa toolbar you can give yourself a better Alexa ranking. Since after installing the toolbar, I noticed quick improvements in my Alexa ranking. Encourage your friends with Alexa toolbars to visit your website daily and encourage all your readers to download the toolbar

Get the Alexa Tool Bar
Get Alexa via this link. The nice thing about the toolbar is, it will show the traffic ranking of every website you visit. This makes it easy to compare traffic between two websites. You can also help me reach my goal of 10,000 by downloading the toolbar.

What is an Alexa Ranking?
It ranks websites based on traffic. 1=most trafficked site on the internet. 100,000=100,000th most trafficked site on the internet. “The traffic rank is based on three months of traffic data from millions of Alexa Toolbar users and is a combined measure of page views and users (reach). As a first step, Alexa computes the reach and number of page views for all sites on the Web on a daily basis.” -Alexa.com. In other words, your rank is decided between Alexa users alone. This does leave margin of error. Say for instance your site was trafficed by 100% Alexa users, this would ultimately give you a better Alexa ranking over even sites with more traffic.

Make your own Cleaning Supplies: Save Money

Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008

Finding that Windex has suddenly become too expensive for some strange reason? Just make your own cleaning supplies and save money in the process.

Make Your Own: Carpet Cleaning Solution
Combine 3/4 cup baking soda, 2 tbsp corn starch, and 1/4 cup perfumed talcum powder. Sprinkle on dry carpet, let stand 5 to 15 minutes, then vacuum.

Make Your Own: Homemade Window Glass Cleaning Solution
1/2 cup vinegar to 1 gallon of water (or 2 tablespoons per quart) OR
1/2 cup sudsy ammonia to 1 gallon water (or 2 tablespoons per quart)

Make Your Own: Toilet Bowl Cleaning Solution
Pour 1/4 cup full strength chlorine bleach OR 1/2 cup full strength ammonia into bowl. Swish with a bowl brush and flush.

Whatever you do, never mix ammonia and bleach together. You might think, man this will clean even better. Then you’ll start to see things, you’ll want to take a nap and before you know it I’ll be reading your obituary as a comment to this post…
