The World is Flat, How Small is the World?

The Earth is the one thing everyone has in common. We all live on it. Though considered round, the internet is making the earth flat. Thomas Friedman wrote in his book “The World is Flat”, that the world as flat or level in terms of commerce and competition, as in a level playing field —or one where all competitors have an equal opportunity.

We Live in a Small World
The Internet has no borders, no boundaries, and little government intervention. Anyone in the world with internet access can join in, communicate, and even open a global business with very little setup costs. Where else can you interact with someone from Shanghai, order a product from Hong Kong, and work remotely while traveling India?

The Comforts from home wherever I am
Though I’m thousands of miles away from my hometown, I’m still connected. My slingbox allows me to watch my cable TV from home and my dvd player whenever I want. I use online radio streams to hear local radio direct from home. When I want to read the news from home, I just log in to my local hometown newspaper. The only thing that is missing is my physical presence.

The Whole World in One Place
What the internet does essential is allow you interact with anywhere in the world, anyone, and anything. We don’t have to travel to Paris to see whats going on at te Eiffel Tower, (just view this webcam). I can see what’s going on downtown in my hometown via this link. In the future, as we are allowed to work from home more and more often, it won’t matter wear you live. Maybe someday it won’t even matter your nationality…
