How to Build a Big Screen TV
Published by Nick on February 18th, 2008 | Tagged frugal

Want to have a big screen tv but don’t have the cash to fork over to buy a big screen tv?  Why not build your own big screen tv? Using simply technology it is possible using a few guides available on the internet.

Big Screen Kits
You might have seen those kits out there offering a big screen tv at a low low price of only $15.  They say that with their kit and a tv you can start watching 50 inches of big screen tv glory.  What they didn’t tell you is that  you are going to end up with a very low lighted projection.  Essentially, the lights from your television set, plus the resolution will leave a less than desired 50 inch projection.  Yes it will work, but it won’t be worth watching.  I’ve purchased one of these $10 kits off ebay and was left with a less than desireable big screen tv.  Rather I’d suggest investing at least $100 and using one of the following guides.

1.Tom’s Guide: Build a Big Screen for under $300
Tom’s Guide takes an old lamp projector, that kind you find at school, and suggests putting a flat screen monitor under it. View the whole article here

2.Engaget’s Guide
They ended up spending over $700 on their project, yet they didn’t go cheap on anything. They bought basically new everything. Still, this is another alternative to look at besides for Tom’s Guide. View the whole article here

3.Invent Geek’s Guide
They ended up spending the least on their project. By the end, they spent $174. Consider that $110 was just for the projection screen. Not bad! View Invent Geek’s guide here
