Rather than just buying traditional domain names, Kevin Ham has specialized in buying domains that are just slightly misspelled.  Lately he starting investing in domains like google.cm and google.co, which of course isn’t that easy to buy.  It takes quite a few connections still to get a .cm or .co domain name.

Consider though, that even facebook.cm get a large amount of hits each day, just from people misspelling the domain.  That’s just ad money that’s being generating from human nature (we all make mistakes.)  Though it seems like it’s almost impossible to pick a domain name that isn’t already taken, just remember, there is still plenty of sabotaging opportunity left every time a new domain gets created.
