I started blogging as a hobby and turned it into a full time job. It took nearly ten months to turn my blogging from a hobby into a full time job.

May 2007: I started out blogging, earning $30 a month. I didn’t know much about blogging or anything about seo, monetization, or subscribers. I blogged simply for fun.
July: I made a few changes on my blog which doubled my income to $60. I created a second blog, thelifeingermany.com to write about my adventures in Germany.
September: I reached my first $100 with adsense.
October: I reached $200 with Adsense.
November: I created a few new blogs and reached $1200 with adsense. I created multiple blogs using the principles I used to reach the $1200.
December: I am first able to live off the income of my blogs.
February 2008: I am awarded $1000 for IZEA’s top blog contest. I hit $3000 for the first time.
March: I optimize the monetization of my blog and finally reach $180 in one day. I make as much as $90 per hour, by blogging 2 hours per day.

When traveling to different countries customs always asks me, what I do for work. I always say I just build websites, but the never seem to understand. Then they ask what I’m doing for three months in their country to which I respond, “Just working and hanging out.” To which they respond, ok who do you work for? Myself. I guess somethings the customs officers will never understand…
