Monday, March 24th, 2008

Though who can really say Windows Vista is superior to XP, well there are a few nice features in Vista, but is it really worth paying for that upgrade? No… But, if you still want that updated look of Vista, here is how you can transform your version of Windows XP into Vista for free.

The Windows XP/Vista Transformation Pack
This free upgrade for Windows XP with transform XP into a near copy of vista in outward appearance. (It’s the outside that counts right?) If you are all into superficial looks, then look no further than this free pack. It will change your:* Boot screen * Welcome Screen / Logon Screen * New msstyles files (visual styles) * New desktop and file icons * New toolbar icons * Progress Dialogs * Sounds scheme * System Tray icons * New Wallpapers * Windows Media Player Skins

Overall I can barely tell the deference, despite that fact that it will slow our computer down a bit. Get the windows transformation kit here.

Live on Blogging, Can you live off Blogging alone?

Monday, March 24th, 2008

Wired interviewed Harold Davis who is the author of Googles Advertising Tools.  His book focuses on manipulating keywords for the benefit of bloggers.

When asked if bloggers could live off blogging alone Harold answered:

“There are people who make a living blogging, but if you’re going to do it on your own, you darn well better have a ton of traffic. There are 10 million lonely bloggers and people probably only read a few thousand. If you’re going to make serious money off this, it’s a serious time commitment.”

My opinion: Many bloggers just write for fun and not for monetization.  To make money requires more than just a blog and some content.  A lot of SEO goes into my articles.  If you want to stand out from those other few million blogs, you have to start using the tools to optimize it for search engines.

What do you need to start making money?

“You should have at least 100 pages of high-quality content in the can. Blogs are good because they keep content fresh, but that’s just a small part of it. Good reference material really draws traffic. On a photography site I run, for example, one piece I wrote on how to convert raw digital photos draws more traffic than 99 percent of my other photo pages.”

My opinion: Try to write high quality posts. Don’t just write to have content, but write content that people are going to want to recommend to their friends and read more than once.  A good website has good content.

Free Domain Name with DNS Control, UNI.CC

Sunday, March 23rd, 2008

Hate paying for a domain name? Get a free domain with dns control via Uni.cc. Though it really doesn’t cost much to buy a domain name ($7 at most), not everyone is looking to create a website for earning money online.

Free Domain Name with Uni.cc
Uni.CC.  Uni.cc provides a free uni.cc with domain forwarding as well as dns control.  That means you can host your uni.cc on your own hosting and use it just like a .com name.  I’ve already setup a few names like free-tv-online.uni.cc and camera-review.uni.cc.  You can setup as many domains as you want, so you can only gain from their free service.

The Catch
In exchange for providing their free service, they want a small logo placed on your website. If you don’t send them 10 hits within the last 3 months, they might auto delete your domain.

Blogging in Japan, Japanese Blogging Number 1?

Sunday, March 23rd, 2008

Strangely enough, technorati reports that more blogs are in Japanese than any other language. Most likely this is a result of Japans technological advancements in compared to most other countries. Technorati discovered that a total of 37 percent of all blog posts were written in Japanese a number as high as 1.5 million per day. English accounts for only 36%.

A Japanese writing success
A bar hostess and bookstore worker named Mieko Kawakami, a Japanese blogger, was just an everyday worker untill she started her blog.

As she started pouring her heart into her writing, she started to stand out among other bloggers.  Her narrative style of writers turned her into one of the biggest literary writing stars of Japan. Last year she was privileged to even win honors for her work.

What did I learn by Meiko?
You shouldn’t just always follow the trends when writing your blog, rather, be unique, be creative, and don’t worry what others think.  People will want to read their blog if it’s different than anyone else.
