Should I Get a Job? Reasons Never to Get a Job

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

I’ve often asked myself the question “Should I get a Job?”  Should I consider blogging my only job?  Quite a few bloggers have written “no you should never get a job”, “it’s an income for dummies” or even better “getting a job is like being a coward.”

Should I Get a Job?
There are all valid points, to the thought that getting a job stifles creativity, turns you into a wage slave, and chains you to one place.   There are still many valid reasons for getting a job.  Having a job leads toward meeting friends, getting out of the house, and having something to do.  Jobs working for someone else necessarily aren’t bad.  In fact this planet wouldn’t function without people working for other people.

Get a Job, then Work for Yourself
Most of us get a job simply because we have to.  Without we wouldn’t have any money.  I’d suggest working for someone with the intention of later working for yourself.  Work in awage slave field you’d like to later do business in.  Want to open a coffee shop?  Work in one and study the inner workings.  Use your time working for someone else to really learn the field… Be eager to learn!

Reasons Never to Get a Job
Never is such a strong word, but there are plenty of reasons why working for yourself is ten times better than working for someone else.

1. Loss of Independence - Are you really free to take the company in the direction you see fit as an employee?  You have to dress a certain way, work at specific times, and follow crazy regulations.

2. Being a Wage Slave? - As an employee you’ve got to beg to increase your wage. You’ve got to suck up to the bosses and listen to their every command in fear of not getting your wage increased or worse your wage reduced.

3. Risks… – Though in many ways have a job is secure… what happens when you lose it?  You’ve got nothing… Experience only means so much.  What the difference between 10 years and 15 years of experience?

Currently Blogging is my only income and I’ve been fortunate to live off blogging alone.  I wouldn’t suggest blogging as the ultimate job, but it does have many perks… Sleeping in, writing when you want, and of course work from wherever you want.

Constantly Improve Your Blog, Blog Improvement

Wednesday, April 23rd, 2008

Are you satisfied with your blog?  Think your blog needs no more Improvement.  If so, then your website is doomed.  Are you someone who just believes that you’re never going to get better?  Or do you strive to constantly improve your blog?

Strive for your blog’s improvement
I believe that the minute you become satisfied is the minute you lose.  Just think, every year new car models are being introduced, computers get upgraded, fashion sense changes, all in a need to constantly improve.  It’s those companies that don’t continue to innovate and change that lose out in the long run.  Think of it as a chasing as a cheetah chasing it’s prey.  The fastest cheetah gets the prey, the others starve.

Film Camera Stores
Stores that deal in old technology, and don’t grow and adapt to the new are likely to fail.  How many people are even buying 35mm cameras these days?  A perfect example is a camera shop near my house that was going out of business simply because they didn’t make the switch to digital.

Keep Improving…
Rather than staying satisfied with one idea, keep finding ways to improve it.  So your blog looks good, you’ve got subscribers… but what could you do to get more?  Could your design be even better?   Start setting plans for the future, goals to work towards.

Actors make a lot of money, but still they keep working hard and making new movies…  Writers keep on writing, and we all keep striving for something better…

If your new idea fails?  So what, we often succeed by failing!

Internet Karma, Spreading Internet Karma Around

Wednesday, April 23rd, 2008

Karma, best summed up as what goes around comes around, does Karma hold true for the Internet as well?

Internet Karma in the form of  “Blogger Love
Bloggers often post their own Internet Karma posts often referred to as “Blogger Love”.   They’ll post about other bloggers, such as interesting post they’ve read. Megavegalicious recently wrote Nick (me) is “a free spirit, a traveler at heart that writes a nice blog.” Though it’s not necessary often writing about another blogger and link to their site, will often lead to an equally good dead in return… the other blogger seeing your link might link back to your blog, link to you, or leave a nice comment.  Internet Karma at it’s finest.

Internet Karma Commenting
I’ll often leave comments with a link back to my website as I read other bloggers posts… often, those same bloggers will come back to my site, read a few articles and leave comments as well… what goes around comes around…

Bad Internet Karma
With this same logic, there’s also such a thing as bad internet Karma.  You do something bad to someone else in the blogsphere and something worse might happen back to you.   Start stealing articles from people, images, or wordpress templates without asking and well Karma might just come back to get you.  You might get a slew of people writing bad comments on your blog, people writing posts about how much you suck (though this might not be a bad thing traffic wise).

Just remember, what goes around comes around… Treat other bloggers with respect and they’ll do the same… but start acting dirty… and Karma might just come to bite you in the …

My Bimbo is dead, Miss Bimbo

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008

I received an email today telling me that my Bimbo is dead… “You know that you have a “bimbo”?  Its important to take care of it! She dead now! But you can save her again!”

So whats a Bimbo anyway?
It’s a game (MissBimbo) where you create your own little Bimbo girl… Through plastic surgery and weight loss pills you are supposed to turn her into a famous anorexic slut.  Of course it doesn’t end there… You can buy your bimbo plastic surgery (need some bigger boobs?) orbimbo just get a facelift.

Just take the term “Bimbo” which means precisely “an attractive, yet clumsy woman.”

Of course the UK hates the idea, and they rightly should.  The game is targeted towards young teenage girls… I suppose it teaches them some bad stuff, like taking pills to get skinny is a good thing.

I got sucked into making my own Bimbo
Of course who doesn’t curious, I created my own little Bimbo girl.  It was quite easy, and somehow fun… yet I just couldn’t become attractive enough for those virtual dudes… and now she’s… DEAD… good riddance.. .
