Can We All Create Passive Incomes?

Saturday, July 26th, 2008

We’ve heard all this talk about passive income over and over.  But just why is creating a passive income so important?

“I would rather earn 1% off a 100 people’s efforts than 100% of my own efforts” – John D. Rockefeller

Wikipedia provides the question to just how parasitic a passive income is “The concept of passive income evokes controversy from a moral standpoint, being considered parasitic (not producing, but benefiting from the work of others), as well as from economics perspective, as being unrealistic on a universal scale, or utopian. If everybody lived of some sort of passive income, how would things get done and produced?”

In many instances this is true since if no one worked and all lived off passive incomes, how would anything really get done? For now, we’ll always need people killing cattle, farming vegetables, delivering products, producing the entire process that is life. Perhaps in the far out future we could have that “utopian” society where no one works and we all have machines do the bulk of the labor for us. But until then, people need to work, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Knol, Google’s Wikipedia Killer?

Friday, July 25th, 2008

Why let Wikipedia have all the attention?  Google has created Knol, a service that some are calling Google’s Wikipedia Killer.  Now we all know it would be hard to oust Wikipedia, but what is to stop Google from say, making Knol results more important than Wikipedia results?

Take advantage of Google’s Knol!  There are so few written articles that good topics are up for grabs!  It’s time to start “knoling” away at your topics on knol before someone else does… and doesn’t link to your website!

Using a Contract When Hiring a New Blog Writer, Example Contract

Friday, July 25th, 2008

When you want to hire a new writer for your blog, it’s important to get a contract in writing.  You certainly want to own the posts your writer is writing, since it makes no sense for them to quit and demand all articles they wrote to be removed from your blog. Have a new blog writer sign a contract also ensures that you have the right to fire them if they don’t meet certain conditions, while at the same time, it gives your blog writer a sense of security, knowing that you have to hold to your end of the bargain as well.

What to include in a contract when hiring your new blog writer…*

*I am of course not a legal expert, and I can’t give you any legal advice, only what I recommend.

1. Make sure you include the details such as how many posts per month are expected, payment amount, and any obligations that should be met.

2. Make sure you include details about copyrights (no plagiarism,  no use of copywritten materials).

3. Include details about the length of the validity of the contract.

I’ve found a good example contract to base your contract for a new blog writer here. This is a pdf file so give it ample time to load.
