What is Warchalking? Warchalking to Find Free Wifi

Friday, August 29th, 2008

Though it hasn’t widely been used, Warchalking is a method for letting people know that Wifi is present. This might explain any strange symbols you’ve seen on the street.

In Warchalking an open circle means closed node

A circle with a W circle in the middle means WEP Node

Two C’s point Opposite each other )( means open node.

Cars could drive around with their laptop marking these symbols on sidewalk, streets, or any other visile place.  This would alert passerbys and neighbors that there is a connection point.  Of course now even with a wifi enabled cellphone it isn’t too difficult to find an open connection.

To Do Something or Not Do Something, Regretting Inaction

Friday, August 29th, 2008

A wise man said, “I would regret taking an action, than regret not doing the action at all.”

Just do a comparison for the words I should have kissed her vs I shouldn’t have kissed her.  Which action wins, inaction or action?

  • “I shouldn’t have” returns 2,130,000 results
  • “I should have” returns 33,800,000 results

You can always fix a bad mistake through time, but you can never get back inaction.

Another Example: A woman saved up her entire life, penny pinching at every moment to afford a summer home.  She had that home taken away after buying it by the Government.  So what happened to all those moments she could have enjoyed?

The moments I remember the most where everything didn’t go to plan, than trips where everything went according to plan.  When it comes down to it, money shouldn’t always be the issue why we aren’t doing the things we want.

The more you buy, the more you tie yourself down.  That expensive car?  You create your own money trap, where if you stop working you can’t afford the car.  Therefore you have to work or those possessions you bought will be taken away.

Conclusion? When given the chance to do something or not do something, and it is something you wanted to do, just do it, and if things should go astray at least you won’t be regretting inaction and you can always fix whatever mistake you made through time.

Is Blogging Worth it? Is Blogging Worth Your Time?

Thursday, August 28th, 2008

Is it worth blogging? I’ve come to the conclusion that blogging may be worth your investment of time, depending on what type of blogger you are/

I’ve notice at least two type of bloggers:
Those who blog a simple blog post with little or no research
Time Required: 5 to 15 minutes

Those who write self-proclaimed “good posts” with research
Time Required: 30 to 60 minutes

Of course, when I started blogging at first, I spent up to one hour to write a single post. As you write day after day, you can sometimes squeeze out four or five posts within one hour.

So lets say you write one post per day for 20 minutes, everyday. That would be 10 of work per month. Now how much do you earn per month? If you said $500, that would be $50 per hour of work. $100, still a decent income.

I’ve made about $26 per hour of blog posting, letting me assume that, yes it is worth it for me to blog post.

Blogging is Good for the Soul?
Not everyone writes for a profit or even cares about a big profit. Writing also can help soothe your soul, make you feel better, let you get out those emotions. Anyone who thinks blogging is only good for making money is definately wrong and there are millions of bloggers out there not making any cash for their work, and that is definitely okay. Without them we would have so much less to read.

Translate Any RSS Feed to Any Language Mloovi

Wednesday, August 27th, 2008

For those of you who want to start reading blogs in other languages, a new tool called Mloovi will translate any rss feed into almost any other language (the most popular languages).  This could open up a few doors, letting you read news from other languages or more importantly, allow visitors to read your blog in any language.

Another idea would be using Mloovi to translate your blog for you and then effectively use that feed to create additional blogs in alternative languages.  Maybe a ClickforNick.com/cn?  Though there are already plugins for wordpress that will translate your blog, I imagine this method will use a lot less server power (something shared hosting services like Godaddy don’t seem to like).

A bit lost in translation…
