Should we drill offshore for oil?
Published by admin on August 3rd, 2008 | Tagged Random

I had to point this fact out so many think we should drill offshore for oil as a short term relief for high gas prices.  Offshore without considering any facts seems a plausible solution.  But, is offshore oil drilling really going to help?

Fact: The United States consumes 20, 687,000 barrels of oil a day. This means that we consume over 600 million barrels of oil a month. John McCain suggests that there is a reserve of 21 billion barrels of oil still to be drilled for in the U.S. This would be a little over 3 years of oil, if the oil actually belonged to us.

Fact: We would not see any direct benefits from the oil until possibly 10 years from now.

Fact: The United Sates would not own offshore oil.  It would go directly to oil companies which would be able to sell the oil to anyone they want.

No one wants to say it, but the United States can not continue in the same style of living that it has had.  Sacrifices are going to have to be made.  Everyone is going to have to learn to find other ways to live than the ways we have been living.  As we slowly realize it, life is becoming more and more expensive, not only in the United States, but worldwide.

If you want to keep living the way you do, there are two options:

1) Earn more money.
2) Find cheaper alternatives.
