What is the Future of Blogging?
Published by Nick on August 24th, 2008 | Tagged Blogging

The future of blogging is so uncertain just as the future of the internet is. One thing is for sure, in the present and in the future blogging is often replacing traditional media sources.

CNET:
“Wharton legal studies professor Dan Hunter puts blogging right up there with the printing press when it comes to sharing ideas and disseminating information. “This is not a fad,” Hunter says. “It’s the rise of amateur content, which is replacing the centralized, controlled content done by professionals.”

“At its most basic level, it’s a technology that is lowering the cost of publishing” and turning out to be “the next extension of the Web,” says Wharton legal studies professor Kevin Werbach. “Blogging is still in its early days. It’s analogous to where the Web was in 1995 and 1996. It’s not clear how it will turn out.”"

As the two professors pointed out in the CNET article, blogging puts media power back in the hands of those who used to read traditional media.  What it used to cost to open your magazine or newspaper, is now literally free thanks to blogging.

In the future, will Blogging completely replace traditional media?

Though big news media companies will adapt, small time bloggers can’t think to compete with those big guns.  How do these small guys create their news?  Often or not, the first to report is those reliable news companies, followed by the opinions of bloggers.
