Working a Job and Blogging
Published by admin on November 6th, 2008 | Tagged Blogging

These last two months I’ve been doing a job and blogging.  You might ask how does someone work and continue to blog?

Patience and persevence

Anyone who is both working and blogging knows that it can often feel like working two jobs. 8 hours of working followed by 5 hours of blogging and 3 hours of free time, then 8 hours of sleep.  How does anyone manage like this?

The key that I’ve found is not to treat blogging like a job, rather like a hobby.  Sure the extra income makes it seem like a job, but consider that a hobby is something you enjoy regardless of how much it earns.  When blogging becomes a hobby, it is rather it is something you enjoy doing and you don’t feel like you are forced to do it.

Choosing Good Topics

If you want to persue blogging, treat it like something you are commited to, but also try to enjoy it too.  Choose topics you are interested in finding more about.  Choose topics that you  have a lot of experience with and want to share with the world.  The more “fun” blogging becomes, the less you are to feel like it’s just taking too much of your time.

Of course if you can manage to blog a bit at work breaks, that can help too (just make sure you don’t blog anything negative or expect repercussions).

I am also currently working full time and trying to blog on the side. It’s all about time management. Once you have that, you’re good to go.

I WISH I only worked 8 hours a day. My base day is 12, but I usually go to 15 hours a day. I try to blog at lunch and during the little bit of downtime that I get.
