Are you a journalist blogger? It seems about half of the journalist bloggers have had to do at least a little jail time. Yes according to a Washington Times article: Almost half — 45 percent — of all media workers jailed worldwide are bloggers, Web-based reporters or online editors.
Of course you need not worry in the western world as much, rather it’s those journalist in countries which restrict the right to free speech that are having the problems. Journalists eager to express their opinions freely, find themselves instead fighting a powerful Government, who upon catching word of their acts, sends them to jail.
The Washtington Times article went on to say that ‘Six out of 10 of these journalists have been charged with “subversion, divulging state secrets, and acting against national interests,” the survey said — though 13 percent are being jailed with no formal charges.’
While many of us enjoy blogging as the right to free speech and freely express our beliefs, this can still come at a cost, depending where you live.
