Working and Traveling, Travel Blogging

Saturday, February 21st, 2009

Blogging, the benefit has to be being able to travel while blogging.  Customs officials never seem to undrstand this and always ask when I’m expected back to work, to which I reply, I work online from anywhere.  Blogging always traveling and paying for travel as you go.  Does this hostel have internet? That is the atmost number one question I ask any hostel before sleeping there on my journeys.

As long as internet is readily available, travel blogging is definately possible. Things I’ve learned while traveling include life skills such as how to trust yourself, how to make new friends in an instant, improving your self confidence, and opening your mind.  The journey always changes and with each new person I meet, I feel as if it adds something to me. It’s a great chance to learn about the world and discover yourself at the same time.

There are a few downsides to the traveling working life:
1. Short friendships – Most of the friendships I make last a day, a weekend, or just a week.  In fact this can lead to feeling like you have any real long term connection with anyone.
2. Life packed – Whenever I travel I have this sense of living out of a suitcase. When you sleep at hostels, usually you sleep in a room with up to 10 people, so to keep your stuff safe it always needs to be packed away and locked.
3. Constant planning – In this kind of life, you have to always be looking toward the next destination planning everything weeks at a time.  Of course you can’t sleep forever at a hostel so you always have to be looking for the next place to live, go, and your mode of transport.

In the end if you can blog and earn enough to get paid to not work 9 to 5, use your skill to let you travel and experience everything the world has to offer.  I can not think of any better incentive that blogging offers besides this.

My Worst Money Making Ideas, Worst Online Money Makers

Thursday, February 19th, 2009

I’ve fooled around with making money online for sometime now and few of my ideas have failed in trying to make money online. You learn from your mistakes and not all of your money making ideas will pan out.

My Worst Money Making Ideas
1. thelifeingermany.com – this was a great blog from the start, combine all my experiences in Germany.  Though I’m glad I could provide tips to help people in Germany, ultimately the blog never made much more than $40 a month.
2. BustaBlog.com – this seemed like a great idea. Host blogs that help people make money on their blog. At the start it worked well. But after giving support, paying for hosting, and getting spammed to death, it really didn’t make enough money for the effort put in.  Maybe this idea could have turned out better in a second try…
3. ShowtheClip.com – I did a celebrity news section, with sexy celebrity news.  Though this blog did get a lot of traffic, sexy news just didn’t get me barely any money at all. Plus I got sick of writing about Britney Spears everyday.

Those are my biggest failures.  Of course I’ve tried other little blogs here and there, but nothing has manage to outrank clickfornick or my sampleaday site that I share with a co-owner.

Signs That Google Likes Your Blog

Thursday, February 19th, 2009

When Google likes your blog there are a few telltail signs that Google doesn’t have a problem with your blog at all.

Google Sign 1: Most Visited Links In Search Engine

Having your URL show up with some of your most visited links undernearth is a great sign that Google likes you.

Google Sign 2: Getting Your Sitemap Indexed Daily
The more Google updates your sitemap, updates your newer pages into it’s index, the more priority your blog is recieving from Google.

Google Sign 3: A Good PageRank
We all know that PageRanks are somewhat important, something Google still hasn’t given me back.  It seems as if good PageRanks are harder than ever to get these days.  Still, even without an illusive PageRank you can still get your pages ranked well in Google.

Google Sign 4: Lots of  Traffic
We all love free traffic and Google is great and sending it.  In fact this website alone recieved over 650k page views last month. If you are getting loads and loads of traffic from Google you are oing something right.
