Everyone is afraid and has their own personal fears. We hold these fears as long as we continue to doubt ourselves and imagine the worst. However, after a lot of soul searching, I’ve discovered that there are easy ways to take and fear and dissolve it.
Fear for one thing also builds a lack of self confidence. Fear in itself is not having the confidence to do something. If you are afraid to fly in an airplane, you lack the confidence to board and remain calm on a flight. If you have the fear of parachuting out of an airplane, than you lack the confidence to take a mid air free fall.
How to Overcome Your Fears
One of the best ways I’ve discovered to start taking control of your fears is to face them. Like when you take the first plunge in a pool from the diving board, so should you also do with your fears. If you are afraid of something you need to confront it. Unless their is an actual serious risk of injury, you really need to look at your fear in the eye and overcome it.
The worst way to overcome a fear is by taking baby steps. Taking things step by step is like trying to get used to the water in a pool. Rather, just jump right into it. If you are afraid of rollercoasters, just get on the biggest, fastest coaster available. After you do it once you’ll find that all the others seem like nothing in comparison.
If you are afraid of talking to girls, just talk to the most beautiful girl in a bar.
Don’t Think Too Much, Just Act
The problem most people have is that they over think everything. Sure in your life thinking is essential, but in other instances such as taking a flight to a new destination, often it is better just to act and live with the moments as they come. Over thinking leads to procrastination and often you think so much that you won’t even attempt to face your fear.
My advice? If you are afraid of something, go out of your way to face it. This is the best way to be more confident in yourself and get over your fears.
