The Blogging Business

So when I tell people what it is I do to make a living, I get a wide variety of responses. Many don’t believe me, some ask many questions in an attempt to copy what I do, so they too can live the somewhat easy life that I live. When they visit my websites, they see what appears to be a simple setup with posts and a few advertisements on the side. They see a job that anyone can do. While I am not disputing that anybody can do this job, there is a lot more to “blogging” than simply writing a daily post. Simply creating a wordpress blog, and posting every day will not get you very far. Even when I tell myself that I don’t do much, I find myself constantly working on the site. Whether it is fixing bugs, trying to figure out if someone successfully put a virus on the site or working on marketing campaigns, these are all things that a successful blogger does that you don’t see. These things take up a considerable amount of time. Without doing all of these things, your blog will die, or at least not get to the level needed for it to sustain you. So next time you wonder why Nick’s simple blog make thousands, while my simple blog doesn’t get more than 100 visitors, you know its all the things that happen behind the scenes. So next time, you end up on a blog and wonder how such a simple blog gets so many people, or why their income reports are so high. Don’t just ask yourself what is on the blog, ask yourself how you ended up there.
