Earnings Fluctuations With Infolinks

Friday, July 17th, 2009

Lately my earnings have been fluctuating heavily with infolinks. While with most ad programs you can expect a pretty normal rate of return, infolinks has been fluctuating heavily. I have gotten as high as $6 ecpm, earnings per thousand, and the next day to have it suddenly switch to as low as $2. Why the large fluctuations? Often times this is attributed to variation in keywords I use but, in the case of infolinks it might be the fact that they are a smaller ad company. One company alone might be buying huge ad space from infolinks and decide one day to stop their ad campaigns leading to publishers earning less with infolinks.

My point is, the smaller the ad company, like infolinks, the more flucations you´ll probably find with your earnings. Still infolinks performs much better than kontera. Kontera on average performed far less, at about 2 cents per click.

How Long Should A Blog Post Be?

Thursday, July 16th, 2009

Writing long blog posts that are linked to webpages with high Google Page Rank ratings is one way Hyfeno.com a webpage started by my brother has been able to gain traffic quickly from sources like Digg, Propeller and just organic search engine traffic. A long blog post that is linked to trusted websites and relative articles is one way to get google to trust your website. Trust meaning, it will give you higher rankings in the search engine. Short, posts filled with keywords are not always the best way to capture keywords. Spammers have been doing this for ages, only to get quickly pushed to the back, or delisted all together.

Longer blog posts have also additional benefits. Would you rather read someone’s 3 sentences on a subject or a post that has been well researched and contains plenty of relevant information. Better, longer posts can also mean more subscribers.

When it comes down to it. Would you rather write 10 short posts that are poorly ranked in Google, or one long written post that is ranked well? There are benefits to both, but the main factor is, which is able to bring you the most traffic and visitors?

How Long Should Be a Blog Post Be
I usually think 250 words is enough and staying under 1000 words is ideal before your post ends up being too much information. ProBlogger also determined that “experts in Search Engine Optimization (found) that both extremely short and extremely long web pages are not ranked as highly as pages that are of a reasonable length.” Something to keep in mind before you write your next blog post!

New Form of Invitation Spam Email

Wednesday, July 15th, 2009

One of the new way for social networks to get new members is through invitation spam email. What happens is that a social network will send you a spam email that says something like basheer has sent you a cold drink. To accept this gift please click the following link…

I’ve also gotten other spam invitation requests such as dating networks that says a user has added me as their friend and I need only to sign up.

This form of spam “marketing” is clever because not only does it not seem like spam, but a geniune friend request to sign up. Not only that, but it gives you an incentive to sign up for this invitation. You get to figure out who this friend is and possibly connect with them.

Even Facebook has joined on the invitation spam bandwagon. As BitterWallet wrote “When sharing a photo with friends or family the expected use of that personal email address is a one-time invitation to view the photos …. instead Facebook is storing the email address for future marketing use and implying the original sender wants the recipient to “join Facebook”.”

Is this the right way to market social networks? Or will get immune to these new forms of spam as well, deleting them instantly like all the other garbage we recieve on a daily basis?

Climbing the Andes In Mendoza Argentina

Tuesday, July 14th, 2009

Now that I have arrived in Mendoza, Argentina after a 12 hour night bus ride west through Argentina. I am staying at a hostel called Mendoza Inn, a Hosteling International Hostel.

This hostel offers excursions such as climbing the Andes which I will be doing tomorrow. Besides for climbing in the Andes there are such tours as horse back riding and even visiting several wineries.

The Andes are the world’s longest exposed mountain range and have the talles mountain ranges outside of Asia. This is going to be a 12 hour excursion so wish me luck and I’ll be sure to make many pictures!
