Is it true that one of Microsoft’s major products, word, will no longer be able to be sold by Microsoft? After a U.S. federal court in Texas ruled in favour of i4i dispute involving the way Word reads XML, a patent that i4i holds, Microsoft was ruled that it had 60 days to stop selling it’s office suite.
This would mean Microsoft has 60 days to redesign and distribute it’s Word software. But, keep in mind this change only has to be made in the United States. Microsoft need not change a thing in it’s operations abroad. The company i4i also recieved a nice chunk of change, $290 million, for the lawsuit.
Would you buy Microsoft Office without word? What’s the point? Besides don’t you prefer Open Office anyway?
