Like facebook updates, many are finding that twitter simple wastes time. Twitter, a way to communicate short messages, has many reasons why it creates more lost time, than something productive.
DailyMail.co.uk reported that “Pear Analytics looked at a total of 2,000 messages sent between 11:00am and 5:00pm over two weeks. They found that just 8.7 per cent of all tweets were deemed of ‘value’ with worthwhile news content. The remaining 9.6 per cent of tweets were classed as self promotion and spam.”
Self promotion and marketing may get worse with twitter as I recently reported the new pay per twitter service that will probably be another example of twitter posts wasting your time.
The Daily Mail was the one to report that Twitter was a time waster and “pointless bable” while Cnet reported that Twitter in fact is not a time waster. Chris Matyszczyk says the little bable is what makes Twitter great. He compares Twitter to being in a coffee shop with conversations around you, the only difference being you can choose who is sitting around you.
Twitter a waste of time? Or maybe just entertainment at a human level, that should be viewed as something unscripted, as something to read for the entertainment value and less as a way to find important information.
