Wednesday, October 21st, 2009

There are edu blogs out there, blogs with .edu ending that is, that are great for getting backlinks.  The great thing about edu blogs are they are excellent backlinks.  Since you can’t simply buy a .edu domain name, these domain extensions are given more trust and authority than your typical .com backlink.

How to Find EDU Blog Backlinks
There are a number of free tools for finding backlinks to edu blogs.  http://www.edublogfinder.com/ is a great way to search edu blogs for a place to comment and get your backlink.

Just find a few edu blogs and get your blog listed.  Or, if you belong to a university, see if you can get your own webpage and link your blog there for extra link love.

Ways To Keep Wordpress Virus Free

Tuesday, October 20th, 2009

After dealing with wordpress for the last two years, I know how easily wordpress can recieve viruses.  All it takes is for an open door in  wordpress and a hacker can insert his own scripts that make your wordpress blog the deliverer of viruses.  Once Google gets ahold of the fact that your website has a virus, it will list you as a virus website.

Steps to Prevent a Wordpress Virus
1. Always update Wordpress to the latest version
2. Try making all your files on your server read only
3. Install antivirus for wordpress plugins
4. Keep a fresh backup not located on your computer (viruses you recieve on your computer can infect your wordpress files)

Taking A Break from Blogging Hurt Google Rankings

Monday, October 19th, 2009

I’ve noticed that even if I take a short break from blogging  my Google ranking isn’t too much effected.  However the longer I stop posting the less and less traffic I receive from the search engines.  When I start full blogging again after my break usually everything picks up back to normal. Why this trend?

It’s possible that Google Pagerank among other factors views the amount of times a site is updated as one of it’s criteria.  If your site is rarely updated with anything new, then it could be seen as a website that rarely provides fresh content so will be 1) checked less often 2) given lower priority.

Just make sure to update your blog consistently and if you can’t pre publish some content to appear on your blog even while you are absent from blogging

Using Rentacoder for Your Wordpress Blog

Sunday, October 18th, 2009

When you need to do something technical with your wordpress blog and don´t know how, why not turn to rentacoder where you can hire someone to do your work.  Often or not rentacoder is cheaper than you would think.  You submit your bid on the rentaocer site, people will bid on your work, and you chose who you want.  Bids could range from 10 dollars until 80 dollars, depending on the work.

I’ve used rentacoder with everything from viruses to just setting up various databases.  On rentacoder people from around the world, anywhere from India, to Europe, to the United States, or even China can be on your project and offer you a price.  This is worldwide competition at it{s best.
