I used to run a VPS, which basically is a server which is shared between many other computers, however, this also means that a virus on one of these shared servers could lead to an invasion on the entire server. Lately almost all of my blogs hosted on my VPS have been getting infected. In fact this website was down most of yesterday due to a serious virus attack that took down my entire website.
A dedicated server offers more bandwidth, more security (less chances of viruses leaking in) and more overall security in your website. If you website makes thousands of dollars a month, just being offline for one day could cost you 100s of dollars in both money you are paying for advertisements like Google Adwords, and lost revenue from ads. Why not eliminate the risk by going dedicated?
I’ll be making the switch to dedicated soon, hoping to finally be rid of any more chances of getting virally infected.

Nick,
Keep us posted on this–I am interested in doing the same and I hope to hear about your experience with a dedicated server. What company are you considering?
