My Reason for Blogging

Thursday, January 31st, 2008

1 year ago I didn’t even know what blogging was, and now I write multiple blogs and even freelance. This is why I started blogging and my main reason for blogging:

My Reason for Blogging
I met a nice exchange student during my last year of study and she was going to have to move back to Germany at the end of the semester. Fortunately, I had studied German, so the language wouldn’t be a problem. Rather, the main issue was money. I started to read about blogging and how people were making money just by writing. So I didn’t really believe the hype, but decided to give it a try anyway. At least it might earn me a little extra spending money while I blow all my money in Germany.

Looking for Jobs in Germany
At the beginning, blogging wasn’t really bringing any substantial income so I looked for jobs all throughout Germany. I ended up working on a U.S. army base in Stuttgart getting paid $7 per hour. This wasn’t really keeping me afloat. So, I kept working at blogging earning a little extra cash there. However, as hard as I tried I couldn’t find a real job. I have a degree in Marketing and know German well, but I just kept feeling that I was going no where.

I get a Big Reason for Blogging
After 5 months of floating around, I went home. I needed time to recuperate and try to get my head straight. A strange thing happened though. My blogs started to take off, I started to earn $600, then $1200, then $1800. Soon, I was able to consider blogging a “job”. From then on out I had real reasons for blogging.

Back to Germany
Now able to earn an income online, I flew back to Germany in December, (read about my arrival) and so here I am sitting in the small town of Tuebingen writing and looking back at my almost full year of blogging.

Arrival in Germany, Getting Nickel and Dimed

Thursday, December 27th, 2007

After two days without sleep and traveling from place to place I finally made it to my destination in Germany to a small town called “Weil der Stadt” (which is just south of Stuttgart.)

My Day
1. Woke up at 7 am Weds = 5 hours of sleep
2. Flight from Detroit to Frankfurt = no sleep
3. Interview at 10 am in Frankfurt with no sleep
4. 2 hour train ride from Frankfurt to Stuttgart, ending up in Weil der Stadt.

Coffee makes all things possible. With enough coffee I was buzzing all through the interview. As soon as I got to my destination, crash time. I couldn’t stay awake any longer.

Nickel and Dimed to death
Don’t think your only expense will be your flight. It is easy to spend little money here and there that can eventually add up to more than you thought. 1. Airport parking $5 (short term parking to drop me off) 2. Train ride from Frankfurt airport to Frankfurt up $5. 3. Luggage locker to hold my bags for interview $6. Little cost after little cost can quickly add up. Make sure that when you are flying you take in account for the nickel and dime effect and add that on to the cost of the flight.

Future Plans
I will spend the next few months interviewing, speaking German, and of course writing on ClickforNick. I’ll have to work very hard blogging to offset the current weak dollar, that seems to make even McDonalds in Germany seem like a fortune.

About Me, Why you Should Click for Nick

Saturday, December 8th, 2007

I wrote my first about page on July 2, 2007 a day which seems so far away from now. So many things happened have changed since that time, in my life and my way of thinking, especially my view of Click for Nick dot Com.

About Me
I am a traveler and a writer. I’ve been to Europe 4 times and in 2 weeks I will be there my fifth time. I graduated from Western Michigan University in the Spring of 2007 with an undergraduates degree in Business Administartion and Marketing. I also recieved a minor in German. Somehow I fell in love with Germany after studying abroad for 5 months in 2006 and keep returning. Now I speak fluent German. When I return in 2 weeks, hopefully I will be there for good. I go there not only because I love the food and drinks (beer german is the best), but because I feel a sense of belonging. Europe has a lot to see and the train system there makes everything easily accesible.

This Blog
At the beginning I never thought blogging=money. Back in July I blogged for fun. I used this blog as an outlet for my thoughts and ideas. Then I noticed a trend. Every month I noticed my increased ever so much, the same with my earnings per month. At the start I was lucky to make $5. Then I noticed myself making $20 per month, then $100. Soon after my earnings skyrockted to $1500 a month and I realized, maybe I can write and earn a profit.

The reason I enjoy writing so much is because I can write and travel. Being able to earn $80 per day from the internet gives me the freedom I need to travel Europe and be able to finance my trips. Think of click for nick as a fundraiser for a trip around the world. By clicking for me, you help make my dreams possible.

Why Click For Nick?

Monday, July 2nd, 2007

Nick is a recent graduate of Western Michigan University and an avid blogger…

Nick:I am actually pretty new to this whole blogging thing. I have been living in Germany a couple months now trying to find ways to keep me here. I spend so much time searching the internet that I decided to post what I find on this website. Not only do I like to express myself on my blog, but I find it a good place to keep track of all the links that I’ve found.

As I have been posting a lot of blogs about online media like Movies and Music, you can probably figure out that I am actually using this links when I have some free time. Here in Germany, I don’t have access to any American TV, so the best place to do it is on the internet.

I really appreciate your feedback, and I hope I have given someone a good tip or two. Enjoying reading my findings and please feel free to email me at:
