Speed is everything on the internet and by optimizing your blog/website you can guarantee that your site loads fast enough. I recently did my own optimization of clickfornick just by using the following tools and optimization methods:

Checking scripts on your site:

I lost some optimization on my blog through the last year as I ended up leaving various scripts running that no longer served a purpose. Start looking through your code, and make sure you know the purpose of each script being loaded. You just may have a few processes slowing down your site.

Best Tools to Optimize Your Website and Blog

1. HTML Optimize – This will compress your html code into one string of text which will take up less space after elimnating any unneeded spaces. However it will make it hard to edit your code, so make sure to keep an uncompressed version of your code on hand.

2. Image Optimize - Start using this tool to optimize your web images and reduce the total size. Maybe you don’t really need 64 colors and only 3? The difference can be dramatic.

The key is getting your website in the smallest file size possible to guarantee the fastest load time whether your site is being loaded with a mobile phone or on a 56k modem.

What don’t employers not understand? Employees work harder when moral is high, and it’s pretty hard to have high moral when the boss acts like a dick. People don’t mind being stuck in soul crushing jobs as much when the work environment is fun and their boss is… NICE!

Improve Employee Moral? Fire all your dicks, and replace them with good people FUN people.

The Onion News: “In what is being called a breakthrough discovery in worker-administrator relations, a study released Monday in the Journal Of Occupational Science found that not being a total asshole supervisor may be linked to improved worker spirit. “In nearly every trial, we found staff morale runs considerably higher when bosses don’t read workers’ e-mail over their shoulders, complain about their superior salaries, or act in any way like giant, self- centered assholes,” said Erica Gorochow, one of the study’s researchers. “Similarly, we found that typical dick manager phrases like ‘I don’t disagree’ can weaken worker disposition by as much as 63 percent.”

No one cares about the car you can afford that no one else can, or your beach front property…

Whether you realize it or not you probably could increase the amount of free time you have and reduce the amount of work you do. If you believe in the 80/20 rule, then you know that 20% of your work actually is what makes a profit, while the other 80% goes toward other activities such as answering emails, making phone calls, deleting spam… By finding ways to lower that 80% you can increase your free time as well as increase your days productivity.

Removing unnecessary productivity wasters…
If you run a blog, you know that spam can be a problem. You probably delete 80 messages a day, like I did. Recently I installed peter’s antispam plugin for wordpress. It basically makes it so a word has to be entered before comments may be made. Most spammers won’t take the time to do this (they use automated comment systems) so I save the time of having to delete spam messages.

Email productivity wasters…
Do you check your email ever hour? What a waste! Check your email twice a day, before work starts, and just before you finish. If anything was life altering or urgent, you’d get a phone call right?

Outsource your life?
Sometimes little things in your life take up more time than you’d need. A new website called AskSunday.com allows anyone to have their own 24/7 personal assistant for as low as $30 per month. Basically people in India will take your requests and fullfill them. Say you send a quick sms, “Large Pizza from Dominos, delivered at 4. They will go ahead and call up Dominoes from India, and have that pizza delivered for you. Amazing or what?

The main key is, to look at your life and figure out anything that you’re wasting time on. The more you can reduce this 80% of things that aren’t profitable, you’ll be able to have even more free time.

Efficiency is key, and many businesses have learned that anything in excess is just waste. Thus, if you’ve heard of Toyota’s original Kanban system, you know all about how effective Toyota is in eliminating it’s wastes.

According to Jeffery Liker, author of Toyota Way “Toyota has identified 7 primary types of non value-adding waste in its business: over-production, motion (of operator or machine), waiting (of operator or machine), conveyance, processing itself, inventory (raw material), and correction (rework and scrap). Liker included an 8th waste—untapped employee creativity. ”

Consider production to be producing more than you need, Walmart has done great with having exactly the right amount of inventory, anymore would be a business waste. If you yourself sell a product you don’t want extra inventory hanging around do you?

Other wastes that are typical include having too much labor, these people end up sitting around, wastes your money, which in turn adds unneeded costs onto your product.

Finally having processes that are inefficient, having to correct your work, or even having lots of access product left over. Say for instance you create wooden shoes, but after creating the shoe you have tons of left over scrap wood that can’t be used left over. That is lots of wasted shoe material, yet another waste.

How do they 7 wastes of Toyota apply to you?

Think about your daily life. Do you use more water than necessary, drive an inefficent route to work? Maybe you pay for an expensive landline phone where as a voip phone would be much cheaper and efficient for you? There are plenty of ways to improve the efficency of our own lives and looking at the 7 wastes of a Toyota is a good place to start.
