How to Overcome Procrastination, Procrastination Tips

Tuesday, April 8th, 2008

Procrastination we all do it.  No matter how hard I try, the ability to overcome procrastination seem alway harder than just procrastination itself.  Why do something when procrastination is so easy?  On the other hand, how can we get anything done when we let procrastination rule our lives?   Here are a few tips I’ve been using to overcome procrastination in my daily life.

Thinking you have something to do
Often the biggest reason for procrastination is thinking that you absolutely have to do something.  Therefore, you feel forced to do it so you don’t.  It’s your own sense off rebellion and ultimate form of procrastination.  When you also have a deadline, as the deadline approaches, your sense of duty towards completing the task will eventually override your sense of rebellion.

Don’t Think about the Whole Picture
During your time of procrastination it probably simply comes from the fact that you’re thinking of the activity as a whole and not in pieces.  Start thinking about what small step you can complete now.  Just complete small step at a time rather than trying to accomplish the entire activity in one day.

Schedule Some Fun Into Your Life
Often procrastination has to do with the fact that we feel like completing an activity will take fun our of our lives.  Start scheduling moments for fun and moments for getting things done.  This way you’ll guarantee yourself some fun after the work is done.  Keep in mind that even studies have shown that working more than 40 hours a week is just too much and the opposite of productive.

As I said, take the activity in pieces, rather than taking it all as a whole, schedule some fun  in between and try to cover a good portion of it before it gets too close to the deadline when it becomes an absolute must.

Your Purpose in Life, Setting Goals

Monday, April 7th, 2008

Do you have purpose in your life?  Are you setting goals towards the next step in your life or are you simply floating along?

There are times when I’ve felt I lost all purpose in my life, I had no goals, and simply felt like a prisoner in my own situation.  I’d wake up day to day do the same thing, go to bed and look forward to the same old thing day after day with no plans of the future.  I’m simply here, but anything more I have no idea…

How to put purpose in your life
1. Improve yourself.  Find something you don’t like about yourself and set out to change it.  Try running?  After starting running I’ve looked forward each day towards running farther and farther. Learn a language?

2. Meet people.  People can help give you purpose in your life by simply being there.  Once you start meeting people, you’ll look forward to meeting them again.

3. Mark out events.  Any cool events going on in your area?  Start circling them on the calendar.  Find concerts and other events you look forward to.

4. Get involved.  Join a club or a group and start getting involved in your local community.  Not only is this a great resume builder, but you’ll feel good inside too… All nice and fuzzy.

I’ll admit I’ve often felt my life has little purpose and I haven’t followed my own 4 steps, yet it’s those times that I have that I really have started to not only feel better about myself, but also look forward towards the upcoming future.

Blogging a new business? 6 Figure Bloggers

Wednesday, April 2nd, 2008

There’s no blogging major in college, blogging isn’t listed in the business section,  and not many speak about a career in a blogging business, yet still there are those out there paying the bills from blogging, working at home or wherever they want, solely from their computer.  What about these 6 figure bloggers living out their dreams?

3 and 4 Figure Hobby Bloggers
I know plenty of 3 and 4 figure bloggers.  It’s not uncommon for a blog to make at least $100 a year.  Sure that is only about $8 per month, but when it pays hosting costs and the cost of a new domain, that might be all it takes to make a blogging hobbyist happy.

5 Figure Blogers
I fall into this category.  I pull about $40,000 a year writing this blog, (if I continue on my current trend).  Another Nick, Nickedup started pulling in 5 figures from his blog after a year of writing.  The moral of the story?  It could take even an entire year to become a 5 figure blogger, don’t give up!

6 Figure Bloggers
Welcome to the crem de le crem of Blogging.  These are the guys with more influence on the Blog O Sphere.  Take Darren Rowse of ProBlogger.net. He’s started out humbly and worked his way to the top.  Take the Manalo from shoeblog.com.  He just started writing about shoes and slowly, but surely became a 6 figure blogger.  Though it is possible to become a six figure blogger from just one blog, many have multiple successful blogs.  (Something not so easy to achieve).

So what’s the difference between them and you?  They keep up to date on the current blogging trends, they put in 9 to 5 hours on their website just as if it were a normal job.  They work hard to achieve what they earn, there is no magical formula or easy make money scheme.  Just hard work and patience are the keys to become a 6 figure blogger in the new business of blogging.

Become Your Own DJ Online

Friday, March 28th, 2008

Back in 2005, I thought it would be cool to become a DJ.  I used to make tracks using a program called Fruity Loops and even created my own DJ profile online.  You can listen to a few of my DJ tracks on iSound.

Following your dreams
Sure we all have hobbies, but how many of them are you willing to push forward and into a career?  Wouldn’t it be great for your hobby to also be your source of income?  Ok, so I gave up on my DJ career, but had I really made a lot of effort, who knows where I could have gone.

Stop Expecting Too Much
I’m always reminded of a crazy Italian girl who told me, “Stop expecting so much!  Nothing happens right away.”  She is right in the sense that, there is no instant gratification.  You don’t wake up tomorrow and just become a DJ, a writer, or a famous actor for example.

Gratification Through Hard Work
Why are all those students suffering through college, working for minimum wage, and eating leftover pizza from 5 days ago?  They all have a dream.  Through their 4 or 5 years of study, they hope to come out victorious and enjoy the spoils of a great job afterwards.

Take blogging as an example.  Why are bloggers out there writing long, really good articles even though no one is visiting their blog?  They are thinking about the future, long term result.  A few months of hard work and maybe people will start to notice all the effort you’ve been putting into your blog.

There is no instant Gratification!
Hard work and patience are the keys to success.  Work your hardest, but don’t complain if you don’t get all the spoils.  Do something you enjoy and the work won’t seem so hard, put your best effort into what you do and you’ll feel better about it.  Don’t expect anything for what you do and you’ll be happier with the outcome.
