Accomplish More in Less Time

Saturday, February 16th, 2008

Wouldn’t it be great if we could accomplish more in less time?  Productivity is highly affected by motivation.  We could easily accomplish more if we had more motivation.  My theory is simple.  You can accomplish more in less time with higher daily motivation.

Motivation: Accomplish More in Less Time
Hani Al-Qasem, co-author of “Self-Confidence Building in 7 Steps.”, wrote: “It is vitally important that you boost your motivation, and when you do so you will achieve greater results in less time that you ever though possible.Added motivation sparks the fuel that is essential for you to attain all that you desire. With a boost of motivation and determination you relentlessly pursue all your desires and goals.

Where others may give up in despair or desolation, you strive forward, seeing success just round the corner. You can accomplish your goals faster by working smart and not hard. Find out what other successful people did to achieve the same results that you desire? Find out what kept them going, what motivated them to continue until fulfilment.”

Who Inspires You?
Personally, as I’ve said before, I read success stories and use these for inspiration in my own life.  You should also realize many of the people that you admire didn’t become successful because they broke a sweat at the end of the day, but because they were smart.

Example
Let’s say I want to run a mile in 4 minutes.  Sure I can run everyday harder and hard, but maybe the way I run is limiting me.  Rather than just trying to run harder and harder everyday, it would be better to break this down into a process.  What leg movements produce the best results, what type of shoes are better for running, which way should I move my arms for maximum speed?

How to Think Long Term: Make Money

Friday, January 25th, 2008

Before I ever started blogging, I read about various websites pulling 6 figure incomes and only writing one or two posts a day. One thing to keep in mind is that the writers of these blogs thought long term. Most of them didn’t make 6 figures in their first year. The key was thinking long term and holding out long term was the benefits that would come from hard work now.

Thinking Long Term: Growing Over Time
Very few make it big in a day, a month, or even a year. Take BoingBoing.net, currently a very successful website that now makes over one million per year in ad sales. The site launched in January 2000, yet BoingBoing.net didn’t see any huge amounts of traffic until the middle of 2004, 4 years after the start. Now that is long term thinking. What if BoingBoing.net gave up in those first four years? You can see how a website can grow overtime by looking at the chart of BoingBoing.net over the last 6 years.

Thinking Long Term: Making and Saving Money
We plan to retire someday right? Start thinking long term and planning ahead. Do you want to work forever? One of the reasons we go into work full time isn’t only so we have extra cash to take that extra vacation, but so when we get older we won’t have to punch in anymore. Envision yourself 20 years from now. How do you see yourself? Now think, how are you going to reach this great version of you?

To think long term you have to STOP thinking SHORT TERM.
Short Term: I want to write my first blog.
Long Term: This year, I want to write my first of ten successful blogs that will be created over the next 10 years.

Emphasize yourself growing over the upcoming years not just staying stable. Sure life is great now, but if you continue at the exact same path, will you reach the point you wanted to be 20 years from now?

The 17 Year old Blogger and the 4 Hour Work Week

Sunday, December 2nd, 2007

The 17 Year old Blogger and the 4 Hour Work Week are two stories i like to think about in my own personal blogging persuit. If they can do it, I can do it right? I like to use them as a way to keep motivated and know that there are other people out there, who aren’t even 30, by comming up with new ideas that in turn generate millions.

The 4 hour Work Week
The 4 Hour by Timothy Ferriss is a book I’m currently reading. I picked it up from my favorite resource, the local library. Tim went from $40,000 per hour and 80 hours per week to $40,000 per month and 4 hours per week. Quite an improvement right? The book itself I would call a self help book. Timothy Ferriss outlines just exactly how you can make your day productive and perhaps in time, create your own 4 hour work week. Timothy by the way is only 29.

The million dollar 17 year old
Ashley Qualls is a 17 year old who started the site whateverlife.com when she was only 14. Already she made more than $1 million with myspace layouts. After her website took off, she dropped out of high school and bought a nice house just outside of Detroit. When offered $1.5 million and a car of her choice–as long as the price tag wasn’t more than $100,000, she rejected. Smart move, as her company currently continues to make her more than that 1.6 million she was offered.

How to stay Motivated

Motivation, the reason for the action which gives purpose and direction. It is really motivation that will help us in the direction towards more money and the ways to achieve it. In many cases we can’t just be motivated, we need a reason to get us going.

Reasons to be motivated
“a material reward – quite often, you will get paid for doing something you normally don’t like doing at all
personal gain – you will learn something new or will perhaps improve yourself in a certain way
a feeling of accomplishment – at least you’ll be able to walk away feeling great about finding the motivation and courage to complete such a tedious task
a step closer to your bigger goal – even the biggest accomplishments in history have started small and relied on simple and far less pleasant tasks than you might be working on. Every task you complete brings you closer to the ultimate goal, and acknowledging this always
feels good.” -from Lifehacker.org

How I Stay Motivated
I set goals. One goal is certainly to have more money in the future. I set goals and plans to how I am going to achieve that. I look at people who are earning the amount of money I want to earn and use that as motivation to work harder.
I have a goal to get in shape in look better. So everyday I make it a habit to look at people who are much better looking and in much better shape.

So what do I use as motivation? I never forget my goals. I remind myself of my goals everyday and use that to push myself harder everyday to achieve them. Forget what your goals are and you’ll lose your sense of direction.
