5 Reason Not to Own a TV

Tuesday, May 27th, 2008

Own a TV?  Here are my reasons for not owning a tv.  Yes, I’ve ditched the TV, and in the long run I’m more productive because of it.

1. Getting More Free Time: Did you ever watch the TV just because you don’t have anything better to do? On the contrary… there are so many more productive things you can do. Try reading, cooking, even cleaning that messy room?

2. More Sleep?: You ever lose sleep over TV? I’ve often stayed up later to watch the TV, losing needful sleep in the process.

3. Lose Weight?: With the extra time, maybe you could productively work on losing weight? I’ve been one to sit on the couch, watch tv, and eat junk food, its the perfect unproductive combination.

4. Do Stuff On Your Time: Have you ever scheduled events around TV shows? If you can wait just one or two days, watch it online.

5. Thought Process: After ditching the tv, my thought process has improved without having to have the TV do the thinking for me…

How to Check Your Email Less Often

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

Want to start checking your email less often? Email is a great way to lower productivity, and by following the following steps, I’ve been able to decreased the amount of time I spend checking my email, and increase the amount of free time I have at the end of the day.

1) Create multiple e-mail addresses for specific types of e-mail -I like to set my email up as wordpress@clickfornick.com, nick@familyemail.com, and have all my mail forwarding to one mailbox.

2) Check your email only once a day. Sounds hard, but if it’s an emergency, you’d probably get a call anyway right?

3) Set an auto response that tells those who emailed you that your mail is checked only at 3 pm (or anytime you prefer).

“I only check my mail at 3 pm. I will be checking my mail at this time and respond to your email in the order in which it was received”

By checking your mail more often, you aren’t doing much more than wasting your time. Check it less often and see how much more time you have left in your day.
