Craigslist Scams When Selling Items

Wednesday, December 16th, 2009

There are plenty of scams out there when it involved Craigslist.  Recently I was targeted for getting scammed when I tried to sell my own items on Craigslist.  The reply to my Craigslist ad read as follows:

Do you have this item for sale?.

I will offer you 1,250 euro.

do you have bank account or paypal account to receive

payment?

cheers
ketherine

It was quite clear when I actually received this same generic response to two Craigslist ads that I posted for selling items.  Plus, no one would write “the item” or even spell their name as Ketherine.  I simply replied I do not deal with Africa, only locally.

To avoid these kinds of craigslist scams, just always deal with cash or paypal.  Never deal with checks or money order transfers.

Tips For Begging For Money Online

Tuesday, December 15th, 2009

There are plenty of ways to beg online for money as I wrote in a previous post about begging for money online. Besides for visiting those sites on that post, like prosper.com, it takes more than just asking for money to actually get money.

1. Don’t just ask for money. Everyone wants money, so why should a give anyone begging on the internet some money?
2. Provide proof and photos.  The more you can prove that you actually are in a dire situation, the more chances you have to get cash. Why not shoot a YouTube video? Provide pictures, testimonials, whatever it takes to show that yes, you are not just anyone, you really need to beg for money.
3. Have an easy way to collect money from begging.  Most people prefer to use paypal.  Paypal is one of the easiest and most accepted ways to recieve money online.

So please stop writing send me money, I can’t pay my bills. That definitely is not the way to beg online for money and get results.

Rent Your Apartment Like a Hotel With AirBnb

Saturday, December 12th, 2009

Did you ever want to earn money on your apartment, but you didn’t have the resources to turn your apartment into a hotel?  Now with AirBnb you can rent out real people’s apartments or earn money turning your apartment into a hotel.

AirBnb is a bit like couch surfing, but a bit more guaranteed.  Plus you are actually paying for the room so you don’t have to feel like an intruder.  This could be the best solution to turn that extra bedroom into a way that starts to earn money.  This is all without having to go through the process of actually opening a hotel.

Of course you will need to actually provide stuff like fresh sheets, be ready to receive your new guests, etc.  If you are looking for tips, the Washington Post wrote a whole mess of great tips.  One of the valuable tips they pointed out was “To increase your odds and allay their fears, include a photo and short bio in your profile. But just as in a personal ad, don’t reveal TMI.”

Keep in mind that AirBnb does not provide any real hotels so you have to keep fears low, by making sure that both sides the house and the potential overnight guest both have good profiles so that each party can be more confident with the decision.

Tweeting During World War 2, Pearl Harbor?

Friday, December 11th, 2009

Even before the internet, tweeting type messages did occur. In fact even during the pearl Harbor bombings there was a so called tweet that made it out warning about the impending bombs being dropped by the Japanese. Air raid on Pearl Harbor.

Gizmodo assumes that the message would have looked something like Air raid on Pearl Harbor. This is no drill. @JOINTCHIEFSOFSTAFF @CONGRESS @ROOSEVELT Please RT. #USNAVY #USAAF #USARMY #WAR .

Of course it was after this attack and so called tweet that we entered into World War 2 in one of our bloodiest and most intense wars of all history.
