Of course offering HD is going to cost YouTube even more bandwidth and space. As you might have heard before, YouTube has had problems turning YouTube into a real profit machine, stuggling to find ways to even cover the costs of just running YouTube.

Of course one of the most popular ‘HD’ films recently is the Where is Matt video.

You will have to create a YouTube account in order to send messages. It’s just an extra way to send a holiday greeting for free, and with the amount of videos there should be at least one great video for you to send this year.

Two more alternative options for watching TV online are Democracy Player and Joost:

Miro Player (formerly Democracy Player):
Miro is an Internet video player that allows you to choose from a variety of channels, subscribe to video feeds and view them with the integrated player. The channel guide includes more than 600 channels, mostly podcasts and user submitted video clips, and you can also add your own podcast by entering the URL. Its best feature is its BitTorrent (read my article about torrents here) integrated features, where you can watch your downloaded Torrent right on the player.

Joost
Joost doesn’t broadcast full channels, rather just different episodes of shows. They have shows like Punk’d, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, the Late Show, and even the Price is Right. Its just a whole array of interesting programming that is being shown on Joost. Joost was earlier in its beta mode, meaning you could watch Joost if you were invited, but now, everyone who wants to can download and enjoy Joost.

Does this replace Cable and Satellite TV?
Unfortunately even with the large variety of options for Television online, there is no one application that offers it all. Rather we have to switch between programs and websites to get all the television we want to watch.

They seem to have everything that is good on TV. Even old shows like Doogie Howser MD can be watched here. Say you didn’t want to stay up late last night to watch Conan O Brien. That too, is being stream on NBC. Full list of shows on MSN found here. Overall who can be upset with the line of quality shows being shown on the internet. It seems just a matter of time before the internet becomes the way we watch tv.

Get rid of the vcr?
If you are like me, you used a vcr to record your shows. Many people probably don’t even know what that is anymore. They all have TIVO and any other digital device. Well with the amount of free shows that are being streamed, I don’t see any reason to use my vcr again. These streaming full episode site, like MSN, update shows after they’ve been shown, so if you missed the last episode of CSI, just wait a day or two and it’ll be on MSN’s website. Did I say no or almost no commercials? The best advantage with shows streamed online is almost all the commercials have been cut out, except for one or two promo commercials thrown in.

These sites offer Free Movie and Tv shows, but as you have seen in those news, those downloading Free Movies and Tv shows, can get caught and pay huge fines. Sad that we live in such a world, but it is the world we live in so either accept it, or download everything in a coffee shop where they won’t trace you back to your house.

Graboid
I ended up seeing this on a google adsense ad. They claim to be better than any other place to download music and in some ways it’s true. Here is how it works. You start the Graboid program. You have the option between free membership (limited to 2Gbs of downloads per month) or two premium accounts with much higher download abilities. Just do what I do and create multiple free accounts.

They do have an impressive list of movies. They seem to have just about every movie, TV show, in both HD and DVD quality imaginable. Better than that, they all seem to download much faster than bit torrent. How this is possible is beyond me, but it seems very promising. If you connection is fast enough, there is even the option to stream films directly from the website.

Be patient with the Graboid program. It is very buggy and tends to crash very often. I had to restart the program 2 times before I could get it to work. It is in it’s beta version so I can only hope version 1.0 is released soon.

Emule
This is usually one of my last option for downloading movies, music, and tv shows. Why? It seems to take forever for something to download. Emule will connect you to a server filled with other users sharing everything imaginable. The problem with Emule is that you will often sit in long queues waiting for a download to start. It is better to let Emule run all day long and hope that eventually it becomes your computer’s turn to download (your turn in the queue) and we can only hope that person sharing the file has a good connection speed (otherwise it might take the whole day).

BitTorrent
This program still outranks all the others. Downloads are fast, usually good and unmatched. I’ve gotten my best download speeds using bit torrents. This includes of course movies, tv shows, and music. To use BitTorrent you simply download the BitTorrent program found here, and then simply find the files you want on a torrent website.

Where to find Torrentz? Some of my favorite include: www.torrentz.com and www.mininova.org. Simply visit the site, find the torrent you want, and click download. The BitTorrent software will initiate the download (make sure the BitTorrent is running).

www.tv-links.co.uk shutdown, tv-links faces jailtime

AOL Television – Watch some classic episodes. They really could have a better lineup than what they’ve got, but there are of course a few good shows among the list. They’ve just got loads of syndicated shows like Lois and Clark: Adventures of Superman, Chips, and Gilligan’s Island. Just by looking at their topic comedy show, “The Ben Stiller Show”, you can tell they don’t have the best TV lineup.

Nickelodeon – You can watch most of your Nick shows online streaming for free, including best of all, Sponge Bob. You can even watch the Cosby Show here or the French Prince of Bel Air. Remember the Rugrats? They’ve got them too. Seems all your favorite Nick shows, even some Nick at Night are all being streamed for free here.

ABC Family – They have a decent amount of shows being streamed for free online. This includes shows like Kyle XY, 7^th Heaven, Grounded for Life, and a few others. I actually haven’t heard of over their offerings, though I haven’t watched ABC Family in a long time.

Cartoon Network – Watch some of your favorite Cartoon Network Telvision cartoons here. It seems that everyone wants in on the action.

Be careful what you share
It seems that just redirecting users to free movies is now a crime. My advice? Don’t provide anything that could be considered illegal on your website. While it seems the other sites redirecting users haven’t been shutdown, it would be better to avoid making this site unless you don’t mind risking the potential consequences such as jail time.

Fox on Demand
Fox probably has some of the best offerings of all the network channels offering video on demand. This means you can watch shows like “24”, “Prison Break”, “The Loop”, “K-Ville”, “Bones”, “American Dad”, ”The Simpsons”, “Mad TV” and most of their primetime broadcasts.

I’ve had a few problems getting the channels to stream without stopping, but maybe my internet is just not up to speed?

ABC on Demand
They are currently streaming their top network shows on demand. This includes “Ugly Betty”, “Grey’s Anatomy”, “Men in Trees”, “Desperate Housewives”, and “Brothers & Sisters”. Other, older shows are also available, including “According to Jim”, “The Bronx is Burning”, “Day Break”, “Fashionista Diaries”, “Fat March”, “Knights of Prosperity”, “The Nine”, “GH Nightshift”, “October Road”, “Six Degrees”, “Voicemail”, and “What About Brian”.

Through my experience with Abc’s on demand service, it works well. As long as you have a decent internet connection, shows should stream flawlessly.

CBS on Demand
They are currently showing“Big Brother”, “CSI”, “CSI: Miami”, “CSI: NY”, “How I Met Your Mother”, “Jericho”, “NCIS”, “Numb3rs”, the “Power of 10”, “Rules of Engagement”, “Shark”, “Survivor”, and “The Unit”. They also include on their lineup “As the World Turns”, “The Guiding Light”, and “The Young and the Restless”.

I’m not a big fan of the soaps, but I can see how this is a big advantage to those who have to miss them regularly because of work. Is there even any other reason to watch CBS anymore besides online?

NBC on Demand
I didn’t find NBC’s offering quite as good as the other network channels. They seem to be lacking on shows on demand. They do have “The Tonight Show”, “Heroes”, “30 Rock”, and a couple other shows, but I would expect them to increase this lineup in time.

NipTuck Seasons 1-4 Online
Since I missed out on a lot of the old episodes, I use Tv-Video.net to catch up on all the episodes I’ve missed out. One thing to be aware of. All the episodes on this site are in the Flash format. This means that at high resolutions, expect less than great quality. It is highly enjoyable in a small window, if you don’t mind watching Nip Tuck on your laptop.

Overall…
I like the layout of the site. There is a picture of each box of the movie so it is easy to find a movie to watch. They also have everything in alphabetical order, which makes finding a specific movie title easy. It would be nice however for the option to sort movies according to release date, so I wouldn’t have to browse through old movies from the 20s.

This site is being added to the long list of other sites offering free movie and tv shows online.
