There is a new phone service that offers auto expiring phone numbers. These will offer call forward to your current number for free. The intended use is to hide your current phone number.

Some services you get with this anonymous call forwarding number include:
1. ability to block calls from blocked numbers
2. the services automatically filters out known telemarketers calls.
3. Lets you enter a do not disturb time
4. Set a caller greeting

The only problem I see with this call forwarding service, iNumbr, is the fact that you don’t get your number rather a extension. Sure it’s free, but still, it feels cheap, and free like it is.

Finally you can use Google Voice with your Windows Mobile Voip Phone. In fact any phone using windows mobile can add in this little program and be able to dial out using Google Voice. The program to do this was written by Lonnie Langle. He added three lines of code to Microsoft’s Calling Card demo for Windows Mobile 5.0 SDK R2.

After installing this Google Voice for Windows Mobile program, your Contacts list will have new menu options to dial using Google Voice.

You will need to download a program and follow the instructions via this link.

Time to start making some free international phone calls with the new service from PHAD.  PHAD lets us dial our favorite destinations long distance for free using a 1800 number.  We aren’t sure if PHAD is free using a payphone, but it should work.  This is a great alternative to paying for calls, though most international calls in the USA are the same right as local calls anyway.

For those that want to try making some free international phone calls using PHAD it is very simple: enter a destination number and then you will have listen to 30 seconds of commercials.  After that the phone will ring and your call will be free.

The number to make international phone calls with PHAD is 1-800-980-PHAD (7423).

One of the best places to use both internet and phone service for free is in any apple store.  I almost always visit the Apple Store when one is in the near for a few reasons.  1) They usually offer free phone calls on their iPhones.  Just pick it up and usually any iPhone calle will be free.

The internet is also available for free, meaning that if you brought your own headpphones and mic, you might even be able to make a few free voip calls right in the Apple store.  Sure they might look at you funny, but I doubt they will say anything since customer is almost always king…

Skype is adding a new feature. You will be able to connect to Boingo hotspots using your skype credit to pay for access.  Anyone who needs a quick fix onto wifi in locations such as an airport can connect with the new skype connect feature and start paying per minute.

The fees? It will cost .19 USD per connect, a relatively hefty fee.  If you just need to check your mail quickly, it may be worth it.  But for longer conencts, you might want to just pay Boingo’s usual hourly rate of about $5 per hour or $10 for a day.

The new Skype wifi feature is available on the newest Mac version of skpe. Pc users have to wait.

Google has finally taken a step forward with Grand Central turning it into the new Google Voice service.  Does that mean users can finally sign up with new accounts? Unfortunately no.  Google Voice is limited to previous Grand Central account users only.  However, we are hopeful that the new switch to Google Voice means that Google is still interested in the project and will eventually open up to new applicants for the service.

Google does promise to open the service up to everyone. In their question and answers page, Google states: “We expect to have the service ready for new users in a matter of weeks, and are focused on opening it as soon as possible.”

The new Google Voice features explained in a video:

Aim had offered free incoming and even a voip service that opened up to a certain amount of users and then closed to any new registrations.  Well now AIM has just shutdown for good, having not been able to really come up with a business model that works.

Yahoo had their own voip service previously which turned into JaJah.  We had hopes that AIM voip would work out, but alas, all has failed and Aim Voip is permanantly cancelled.

Our recommendation? If you use Aim Voip, spend your credit because there is no telling if you will even get a refund. If you have a lot of credit left, start emailing them or calling to get that refund back!

The service will shutdown for good March 25, 2009.
