I’ve noticed the “Skype Wifi 802.11 b/g Wireless Cordless VOIP Phone” selling on Ebay for as low as $100 with $20. Not bad for a Wifi phone for only $120 after shipping. But, is it worth getting a Skype Wifi phone?

Benefits
It’s definately nice to have a wifi phone that you can use without having to hook a headset up to your computer. This voip phone will allow you to connect to skype with any present Wifi connection. As long as their is a wifi connection present and you have the password, you can make calls to anyone on who is logged on Skype or you can just as easily make cheap outgoing calls with your Skype account.

Disadvantages
This wifi Skype phone only works with skype. That means that you can only deal with skype. Though Skype has some competitive rates, it doesn’t compare to services like justvoip.com who offering free calls to over 20 destinations. This lack of support, makes it impossible to support any new voip programs. Rather, you’ll be stuck with Skype and whatever they decided to charge.

Conclusion
If you are new to voip and are comfortable using Skype, then this could be a great option for you. However, if you like taking advantage of the latest voip offers, then pass on this voip wifi phone. Why tie yourself to one provider and their rates?
