Kamal Anand, VP Marketing at Meru Networks, has said that Japan represents the most developed VOIP market in the world. Voip access in Japan should be no surprise considering that broadband is highly available in Japan.

More Voip Users in Japan?
This study by Meru Networks went on further to say that even though Japan has less than half the population of the United States, it has more VOIP users. This year alone Japan is expected to have 28 million VoIP users. Even back in 2003, Japan was introducing 050 numbers that would automatically switch traditional phone systems over to voip.

High Speed Internet in Japan
Consider that in the US, the average internet speed is 3 Mbps, while in Japan over a fourth of the population has access to speeds as high as 12 Mbps.

Conclusion?
Though major telephone systems would disagree, we should start focusing more on Voip systems. If everyone was using the free voice approach it would surely change the way phone companies operate and surely put a few out of business…
