If someone develops a voip application for the iPhone, Apple says it won’t stand in their way. In fact, according to Gizmodo: “Apple will only prevent it from making calls over a cell network to protect poor little AT&T. If you’re in a Wi-Fi hotspot, however, go nuts.”
This could mean a lot of things for current Apple iPhone users. Less expensive calls
whenever you are within a wifi network. That’s been the main reason preventing my Apple iPhone purchase, the lack of voip support. I mean the iPhone is a phone and it does use the internet, so why shouldn’t the iPhone be able to use voip as well? Apple iPhones without voip seem like a feature that would have more and more people buying the iPhone, even though it’s been quite succesful without this feature, selling nearly 5 million iPhone’s since the initial release.
