Phone Zoo is an easy way to create completely free ring tones without inadvertantly getting yourself stuck on one of those spammy free mp3 to ringtone websites.  The service has already been around over year.

In order to get away from providing copyrighted music and running into legal problems, Phone has an interesting approach to getting around copyright protection.  On the copyright question, PhoneZoo lists two types of ring tones available for sharing. Public domain files can be listned as well as downloaded by anyone.

But, when it comes to copyrighted music, users can only listen to them.  They can be downloaded as soon as a user provides a copy of the song and uploads it.  Sort of an interesting way to get around liability issues.

The best part of Phone Zoo is that it is easy and it works.  I’ve not found a similar solution for mp3 to ringtone.
