By adding an extra $10 on your T-Mobile bill, you can get unlimited voip calls using T-Mobile.  This works at both home and in T-Mobile hot spots.  Fortunately T-Mobile does have pretty good coverage across the U.S.  I’m not sure how this works on a global scale.

Limitations
Remember this isn’t just $10 a month.  You’ll have to get a T-Mobile phone capable of Wifi, and you’ll have to pay for a monthly phone bill on top of the extra $10 a month for using their voip service.  The best way to approach this would probably be sharing minutes with multiple phones, yet then again I can’t be sure if this would allow you to share the voip service.
