I’ve often been asked whether PhoneHog actually does give out free phone cards, or if PhoneHog’s phone card system is just a scam. I’d have to answer yes and no.
PhoneHog has been successful in delivering phone cards since the year 2000. The service has over 8 million members and given out more than 270 million free phone card minute. On April 7th, 2008 they just celebrated their 8th anniversary as a company.
PhoneHog is not voip, it’s an actual card calling system over phones. But, here comes the scammy part. You have to sign for offers in order to get free minutes. You visit retailer websites and buy their stuff and you get minutes. This makes the “free” part of the PhoneHog system not quite so “free” after all.

“Scam” implies that you are being tricked, or you are receiving nothing for something. This is definitely not the case with PhoneHog. PhoneHog tells you up-front what the offer is, how you qualify for it, and how many units you will get for your participation. Many of the offers PhoneHog promotes are for free information, with no obligation or pressure to purchase anything. So, yes, “free” still means “free”.
