A new form of identity fraud has hit voip telephone services. According to Newport Networks, “Usernames and passwords from voice-over IP (VoIP) phone accounts are selling online for more than stolen credit cards”.
The admit however that this type of voip fraud is still early on, and the biggest concern is eavesdropping on your voip calls. They’ve gone on to say that 90% of voip networks are not secure. Voip is encoded in such a way that the bits of data sent between computers can be captured and decoded.
Skype however claimed that it offers end to end encyption to provide protection against eavesdropping.
Things to Keep in Mind
You might never know who could be listening to your voip conversation. If it’s dealing with classified information, keep in mind that anyone could be listening.
