There are plenty of softphones for making free voip calls, but which are the best?  We’ve found our top five voip softphones (emulated phone for you computer) and listed them as follows:

1) X-lite: The most popular used softphone.  X-lite offers a computer version as well as mobile.  The software is completely free.

2) Ekiga: This free softphone is not only open source, but also supports the use of video conferencing with voip.

3) 3CX Softphone: Just another nice softphone. This is a windows based phone for making free voip calls.

4) ZOIPER: Yet another softphone we could recommend.   Free and Business IAX and SIP softphone for Windows, Linux and Mac OS, compatible with Asterisk.

5) SJLabs: The softphone I currently use for my smartphone. Offers both a windows and windows mobile version.
