Kkrieger, it’s Germany’s beautiful first person shooter that uses only an amazing 97 kbs of space. Though it’s small file size leaves no options for changing the graphics or controls, the game seems like it could be at least 100 kbs in size. Kkrieger was specially developed to use as little of your hard drive as possible. The developers even won two German Developer Awards.
Basically you run around levels shooting these weird spider creatures, who if left unguarded, will start nibbling on you and slowly diminish your life away.
Interesting Musical Creations
According to Wikipedia, “The game music and sounds are produced by a multifunctional synthesizer called V2, which is fed a continuous stream of Midi data. The synthesizer then produces the music in real time.” Sort of an interesting way to save on file space.

I’ve been covering many first person shooters lately on ClickforNick’s Free Software Blog, mainly, because these free first person shooters. Let’s take a look at Warsow.
Warsow, a cartoony Shooter
Warsow uses the Quake 2 engine, yet redesigned the graphics to give them a cartoony feel. Have you seen the movie a Scanner Darkly? Both this game at the movie has a similar feel.
According to Warsow:
“Warsow is developped under the motto “by gamers for gamers” by a team coming from all kinds of gaming backgrounds. To attain the “by gamers for gamers” spirit, the community are our betatesters, both through internal testing sessions (with community members) and in the feedback on the public releases.”

Sauerbraten, the name threw me off at first since in Germany it is a roast meat. Online its a first person multi-player shooter. Just one week ago they’ve release the latest version of Sauerbrater called the Assassin Edition.
Eye Candy?
From the screen shots, Sauerbraten is no roast meat, rather a very well designed game with some of the best graphics I’ve seen for free first person shooters. With games this good looking, why should anyone need to pay for shooting people online? Why not take out that aggression for free? If you’ve played Cube, the predecessor, then it is time to make an upgrade and start playing Sauerbraten.

Originally Wolfenstein Enemy Territory was meant as a full first person shooter and multi-player game, but ID, the game creators, ran into problems and decided that it would be better just to release the game as free multi-player online shooter.
Online Game Play
You fight as the Axis or Allies to either complete or stop mission objectives. Tough we already know the real outcome of the war, you can change some history in the game. Actually most of the events in this game never really happened. There are not only official maps available, but also since its release, plenty of unofficial maps have been created by the internet community.

It’s the aliens versus the Humans in this open source first person shooter. Its basically just team battle with the humans trying to eliminate the alien species and vice versa. It uses the Quake 3 engine to bring more realistic levels and characters. My favorite feature of Tremulous is that the alien creatures can scale the walls.
Completely Free?
As with all of the posts on this blog, none of the games have spy ware or any other annoying catch to it. Tremulous using open source software without any extra spy ware.

Want to relive World War 2? DDay Normandy is an open source first person shooter and a complete modification of Quake 2. Though the game is no longer being developed, there have been slight updates from time to time including new maps and models.
Germans vs Americans
Just like the war, its an all out German American Battle. You fight with the backdrop of a European village with guns and knives. There have been additional expansions for including Russians and the Japanese if you feel like getting more countries involved in this multi player shootout.

The U.S. Government developed their own first person shooter? America’s Army was developed as a way to help with U.S. Army recruitment. Is this a good way to get people to join the army, through video games? It’s online game play has actually been rated in the top ten of online multi-player games.
Want to be in the Army, but not join?
That is the furthest I’d recommend taking a game like this. Though the video game looks great, can you really believe that real life is just like the game? That is for you to decide. In any case, get the video game version of the U.S. Military with America’s Army.

AssaultCube takes multi player fun and combines it with large weapons and remote locations to bring players together to shoot each other. Sounds like most first person shooter games right? With AssaultCube (formerly known as ActionCube) a small package delivers a lot of fun. In its small 19mb file size, you get plenty of multi player fun.
AssaultCube, team based gameplay
You won’t find one player missions with AssaultCube, only level maps and online game play. In order for this game to be any fun, you have to play online, otherwise you’ll be running around shooting the walls.

Nexuiz is an ongoing open source project that looks very similar to Quake 3/4 and is available completely for free, since it is open source.
Nexuiz.com: “Nexuiz is a 3d deathmatch game project, created online by a team of developers. It is available for download for Windows, Mac, and Linux (all the same archive). The first version was released May 31st 2005, released entirely GPL and free over the net, a first for a project of its kind. Since then it has been downloaded over half a million times, and the game is still being updated and developed, currently at version 2.3 and new releases being developed.”
Downloading Nexuiz
There are two things you will want to download
1. The Engine Nexuiz, how the game runs.
2. The 35 Map Pack: It includes 35 maps, and a campaign mode for the user to fight through.

This game network is being presented by both the history channel and Kuma Games. This game is not only a multiplayer shootout, but also a TV series.
Kill Point, the Show
“In the tv show, two men go head-to-head when a bank robbery goes terribly wrong and starts a hostage situation in this Spike TV 8-hour television event. The acclaimed actors John Leguizamo and Donnie Walhberg bring all the tension and gripping drama to the small screen.” -TV.com
Kill Point, the Game
The game lets us replay scenes from the tv show. Its the cops versus the bad guys. In this game you are basically getting a recycled half life 2 game, but its online and its free. You will get some annoying ads, telling you to watch the episode of the game you are playing. If you can deal with that you’ll enjoy The Kill Point Game.
