Free PVR Software, How to record shows on your pc

Filed under: utility — Nick @ 2:03 pm

I always wanted a TIVO, but did I really need one? Anyone with a Tv Tuner can easily record shows on their pc using PVR Software. GbPVR lets us backup all those shows free, just as long as your computer is a 1Ghz Pentium III Class PC with at least 512 MB of ram.

Features
To make things easy, GbPVR uses a tv guide to make scheduling new recordings easy and simple. You can choose the format you want the shows recorded in, whether it is in divx, xvid, wmv, or even the ipod format for viewing recordings directly on an ipod or zune. You can time delay shows, letting you pause live tv or even fast forward through commercials. Best of all, you can record shows directly to your pc.

Ultra VNC, GoToMyPc, Free Remote Computer Access

Filed under: utility — Nick @ 11:44 am

Once upon a time there was GoToMyPc, the only solution I had heard of for connecting remotely to your computer. Then, Remote Computer Access was expensive, making us shed most of our money just to log on to our precious computer remotely. Now comes UltraVNC, sure its been out for awhile, but to me UltraVNC’s free remote computer access is completely new.

Ultra VNC features
Access your computer remotely, transfer files, and see just exactly is happening on your computer. You are able to graphically control your computer which could even be countries away. Another practical use is installing UltraVNC on your computer and a friend or clients computer. Now you can help solve their computer problems no matter where you are located.

We should be happy since programs like these can help keep us at home and away from the office.

Free Backup File Storage, Media Max, XDrive

Filed under: utility — Nick @ 1:42 pm

The worst problem I’ve ever encountered was a hard drive crash which resulted in the loss of 300 gbs of my favorite data. Had I been a wise man, I would have used a free backup storage service to keep my data secure.

Media Max Free Backup Storage
Media Max offers 25gbs of monthly backup storage with no monthly fee. Any amount greater and you’ll have to start paying. The only problem is, they only allow 1gb of transfer and sharing. Does that mean it will take 25 months to get your data back after you upload it? All music, pictures, movies can be viewed directly from the web without download. This means ease of mind knowing you can view your files wherever you are. 25 gigs should enough for anyone to host at least a good chunk of files.

XDrive Free Backup File Storage
XDrive only offers 5gbs of storage, but its automatic feature makes the deal especially attractive. Rather than having to remember to save your files, XDrive does the remembering for you by allowing you to schedule an automatic backup of all your data. You just schedule the day, time, and how much you want backed up.

Free Up System Ram, Free Ram Booster

Filed under: utility — Nick @ 1:35 pm

Got a slow, sluggish laptop or computer that seems to be the turtle compared to the rest of the gang? There is a small software program out that that will free up System Ram.

AnalogX MaxMem
What this free Ram Utility does is clear out your ram so your computer can run fast again. It isn’t necessarily a Ram booster since it isn’t added any ram capacity. Sometimes your computer’s Ram gets so overloaded that its just chugging along. AnalogX, as I said, just deletes everything that has filled up your Ram and frees it. Each time you notice things getting slow and sluggish, just run AnalogX and your problem is solved, for now…
