The whole idea of limiting BBC's worldwide "fan base" is absurd. There's money to be made here obviously. I only wish to watch my beloved Cardiff city live on BBC 2 on rare occasions. "Expat" thats a confusing name for someone who "pays their TV license and doen't wish to share it" - seriously British TV licenses aren't worth the paper they are written on - last I was home you pay for a wopping 5 channels....whoopdy doo pal!

I live in Sweden and here we pay aprox. 166 GBP a year for the licence fee. I think I would be prepare to pay an additional equal fee to watch the BBC channels online.

I would love to get the Iplayer stuff as well. Like just now when I have been bumped off the tv by my evil tennis loving husband. I do understand why the BBC and SKY dont have the option though. It is all down to money. Yep - mostTV programmes are sold to other networks to show in their country and thus if people could just logon and view them via another country's network website you "home" country would be loosing out. SKY turns a blind eye to the huge number of people in Spain that view their stuff via huge dishes. It is a law suit waiting to happen. Digital plus when they get their act together and transmit in dual language will force Sky to reduce its coverage to the UK. Until then they know none of us will switch to Digital plus. What I think the BBC could do is allow pay per download on programmes that they havent sold to other networks after all they still do make a lot of really interesting programmes and many are never sold abroad.

I agree that BBC should be available to Brits when they travel to other countries. Also if the BBC changed their charging method from the outdated licence fee to something more up to date like Virgin or Sky, this wouldnt be an issue. That said even as a paying Sky TV customer I cant access the Sky player abroad either. If I pay for something in the UK I dont see why I cant use it abroad, even if I have to pay a little extra for the privilege. I pay for my Mobile phone in the UK, what would happen if Vodaphone decided that as a UK customer I could only access the Vodaphone network whilst in the UK. They allow roaming service, they charge extra for it but they allow it none the less, why cant the TV providers like BBC and Sky do the same thing?

Hey Expat. You are a Grade-A idiot. In the absence of a legitimate and reasonably-priced paid option people will resort to looking for a way to getting it for "free" - and it is not really FREE because folks have to invest their time and resources (and threats of exposing their systems to viruses etc.) just to get access to UK content.

Regardless, I challenge you to answer this simple question you smartarse: I pay my license fee, but happen to spend most of my time abroad. How do I get access to what I am entitled to then?
