Build your own Projector Screen
Published by admin on March 10th, 2008 | Tagged gadgets

If you’re into big screen projectors and read my guide “build your own big screen tv projector” then you probably are wondering how to build your own big screen tv projector. I haven’t yet built my own projector screen, yet just displaying your projector onto a white wall just won’t give you the same quality you’d find with your own screen. After doing a little research, I’ve discovered how this can be accomplished for as little as $100.

Projector Central Projector Screen
This guide uses one roll of 53″ white seamless paper. This effective leaves you with a 100 inch screen. Materials they used included:
Super-white seamless paper–$26.00, Wood for frame–$34.00, L brackets and screws–$8.50, Velveteen fabric (3 yrds)–$27.00, Elmer’s Glue–$2.00. All for a total of $98.50. The main thing I didn’t like about this screen is that you can’t roll it up. It’s always fixed and you’ll have to mount it against your wall.

Engadget’s Build Your Own Projector Screen
Though this guide also uses a non rollable screen, they spent far less on their project leaving only costing a total of $35, far less than Projector Central. Plus, the screen is also slightly larger, 103.5 inches of projector screen. They used 3 yards of white curtain blackout cloth instead of the white paper.

Big Picture Sound Projector Screen
Why not just use only paint? These guys actually just painted their wall. They used a special movie paint which leads to the best performance, but keep in mind your wall turns into a permanent screen that you may have to someday paint over.

Crazy Squirrel Projector Screen
This screen is a bit more portable allowing it to be rolled up. However, it doesn’t seem as sturdy as the other guides. Still it’s a cheap project and a great way to take your screen with you.

Tvek Projector Screen
This is probably my favorite projector screen of all. Not only is it rollable, but cheap and large. I’m not sure how much they spent, but doesn’t look too expensive.
